Question about Dell Inspiron 2650 Notebook

3 Answers

Inspiron 2650 Laptop keyboard is locked.

Cannot type any numbers or letters in Word or Google, etc. Only my mouse works. I can hook an external keyboard to the computer via USB port and type that way.

How do I unlock my Inspiron 2650 Laptop keyboard? Thanks

I just wanted to tell you what I did to fix the problem. Thanks for your input. I took 2 screws out on the back, and pulled the plastic up on the top by the hinges. It pulls straight up. Then I removed the screws holding the keyboard in and lifted it out of the laptop. There is a ribbon conector there and you must be very carefull but I unplugged it from the computer board. working back in, made a better connection. I blew out the board with air. ( aerosol ) , put it all back together and it works great. I am not a computer man, but do work with this kind of stuff. Electrician. If you do this, just don't force anything. It comes appart easy. Thanks all, tracerbill

If the keyboard is locked ALL the time, try unpluging the power supply, remove the battery, then push and hold the power button and any key on the keyboard for at least 30 seconds. then reinstall the battery, plug the pwoer cord back in and reboot it.

I had the same problem and that is what the DELL techs had me do. I had the problemm frequently for a while and then it just quit recurring. I haven't had the problem for a long time now.

I hope this helps.

Cant get keyboard to work on laptop

Use the on screen keyboard. If it works then your external keyboard is bad. You can also use a usb keyboard - plug it in to an available usb port.

I've got a 4 port switch with two computers hooked up - a desktop and a Lenovo Thinkpad R60 laptop - the desktop works perfect but when I switch to the laptop only the keyboard works - no video or mouse

The Thinkpad does not divert the video automatically to the external monitor via the KVM switch, you need to divert the video by pressing on the Fn key and the press the F7 key to toggle between the Thinkpad's LCD screen and the video port/external monitor. You may need to use a separate USB mouse connected to the Thinkpad.

If these are connected to your computer via USB ports, it sounds as is your USB port drivers may be gone. You may need to update or reinstall your drivers.

Turned on the 6930 andwhen it gets top the login where it asks for your password it wont type...thought it was the mouse but when I got the external mouse going I still cant type a letter in the space...

i would try plugging in an external keyboard.  if you don't have one laying around, you should be able to find one pretty cheap.  i've seen basic keyboards for $5 or $10 bucks.  just make sure that you get one with the proper connector for your computer.  (ps/2, the round one, or usb).  If the external keyboard works, then you've got an issue with your internal keyboard and will probably need to have it serviced.

Keyboard want work

The keyboard is probably broken or the cable is loose (unlikely) from the motherboard. Does the keyboard work at all? at any point?

Try a external keyboard, usb for example and see if that works.

Did you figure out your KVM?

if you tried to connect your mouse to the keyboard port and still it doesn't work. Power cycle meaning unplug the KVM from the CPU, monitor, keyboard and mouse. Then wait for about 30seconds before reconnecting again. If you still encounter the same problem that the keyboard port won't work then it means that keyboard port is defective. Replace it.

I'm hooking up my Memorex wireless keyboard and mouse. I hooked up the two pieces coming off the wireless receptor to the computer and now I can't get the mouse and keyboard to work. Do I press the button...

There should be a connect button on both the receiver unit that is plugged into the usb port, and on each device (Mouse, and Keyboard) you will have to press all of these again to reconnect the devices to the computer.

USB system is not working

nope..you can try to boot from an installtion cd..but without HI options(Human Interface) you may find it's locked..sounds a lot like the Motherboard went south.

You could try to reseat the memory, but that's a low probability approach to this sort of problem
