Question about Dell Inspiron 2650 Notebook

3 Answers

Inspiron 2650 Laptop keyboard is locked.

Cannot type any numbers or letters in Word or Google, etc. Only my mouse works. I can hook an external keyboard to the computer via USB port and type that way.

How do I unlock my Inspiron 2650 Laptop keyboard? Thanks

I just wanted to tell you what I did to fix the problem. Thanks for your input. I took 2 screws out on the back, and pulled the plastic up on the top by the hinges. It pulls straight up. Then I removed the screws holding the keyboard in and lifted it out of the laptop. There is a ribbon conector there and you must be very carefull but I unplugged it from the computer board. working back in, made a better connection. I blew out the board with air. ( aerosol ) , put it all back together and it works great. I am not a computer man, but do work with this kind of stuff. Electrician. If you do this, just don't force anything. It comes appart easy. Thanks all, tracerbill

If the keyboard is locked ALL the time, try unpluging the power supply, remove the battery, then push and hold the power button and any key on the keyboard for at least 30 seconds. then reinstall the battery, plug the pwoer cord back in and reboot it.

I had the same problem and that is what the DELL techs had me do. I had the problemm frequently for a while and then it just quit recurring. I haven't had the problem for a long time now.

I hope this helps.

The laptop keyboard will need to be replaced, go to www.ebay.com Type make and model and refine search to keyboard, also! it might be a good idea to hook up external keyboard make sure it is working.

I password my laptop (samsung R510) and one of the key I used is not working and I got an external USB keyboard by the keyborad is not working with, what will I do to used the external keyboard

your USB keyboard may not work because your laptop has not got to the point of initiating USB at the point of booting to password.
You could try using ascii codes to eneter the key
at the point where you need to enter the key that doesnt work press your numlock button this will turn some of your letters into numbers...they should be written on the keys in a different colur...the laptop Im looking at at the moment has 4 on U, 5 on I 6 on O, 1 on J etc...
hopefully these are not the broken key..
if you look here you will see the chart that says A=65 B=66 etc in order
http://www.asciitable.com/

find the letter you need eg v=118 in lower case
type in your password till you get to the v (if thats the broken letter)
press and hold [ALT] button with num lock on and on your newley formed number pad type in the number thet represent the letter in this case 118 when you release the [ALT] key it will insert that letter.
however this only works with an extended keypad (like a full size keyboard) where the numbers are seperate not your top row numbers which is why you need your numlock on.

if it does then work maybe you could go into your bios and turn USB legacy support on...which may then help your full size keyboard to work too.

I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-18. The keyboard

Connect an external keyboard to your laptop. If the external keyboard works properly that means the keyboard of your laptop is defective and you have to replace it. If you get the same problem with the external keyboard reinstall your operating system (it could be a virus).

I have a problem with the keyboard on my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. The key lock is not on but when I type numbers, I get letters as well. e.g. 1q 2w 3e 4r 5 6 7u 8i 9o 0p I also get numbers when I type...

Look if your Num Lock is on, then turn it off. Try also another keyboard, to see if the problem presists.
I think it's a very little thing, but i can't help you more unless i see it.

Good Luck :)

Keyboard want work

The keyboard is probably broken or the cable is loose (unlikely) from the motherboard. Does the keyboard work at all? at any point?

Try a external keyboard, usb for example and see if that works.

Keyboard

Try this:

Shut down, unplug the AC adaptor, removed the battery, and hold the power button for up to 1 minute to discharge.

Make sure there are no stuck keys.

Restart.
