Hi Tracy, It depends what model gps and which country you live, I live in Australia and have a life time of maps for Australia and New Zealand and even though I'll probably never go to New Zealand every time I update my maps it automatically updates all. By-the-way a life time of maps is as long as my Navman keeps working... CHEERS..
You can get the latest version of the map from the tomtom.com website . Select MAPS ... and choose THAILAND (from the AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND & Asia group of maps).
It's easier to buy a map than trying to update an old version

I also had problems with a refurbished Magellan 4250. The paperwork inside said to install the 4.85 firmware update which I found would not work with Windows XP Home at least for me. I used my laptop which has Vista Ult 32 bit it updated with no problem that is so far the only solution I used.
What do you need to know? Do you have the manual for your unit? If not, you can download one from the Garmin site for free. It shows all the options for your unit, and how to use them. There are no specific options for New Zealand.
