Re: Yamaha DVX-S120 On Screen Menu - Phillips brand

The same happened to me! DVD's play fine but on screen menu just changed and Video Output option is gone! Also de Philips logo on screen which I suspect is placed there by my TV (which is a Philips one) and as it does no longer receive the background screen from the DVX it just puts its own. Is your TV Philips like mine?

DVR-S150 shows No Disk even though a disk is inserted

Most likely, your Optical Pickup(laser) has worn out. It needs about.15 milliwatts to operate correctly. When you insert the disc, the laser must focus on it to read the table of contents. If it no longer has enough output left, it will assume there is no disc inserted in the drawer, which is your issue. If you're interested in having it fixed, please visit my website at, Thank you.

What player will work with the dvx-s100 speakers

The note about using other speakers (Page 11) implies that the electronics and the speakers are not dependent on each other but there might be tonal changes if you mix and match. Therefore, since they use bare wires you could drive them with any common amplifer that is comfortable with 6-ohm loads.

The disc has appeared to stop rotating. The info window continously says "reading".

DVD/CD Read/Write process: 1. The tray or carriage places the disc into the spindle or motor. 2. The spindle motor locks into place to prepare motor to spin - the disc is in free space and does not touch anything except the spindle motor. 3. The laser assembly moves into home position and attempts to focus on the disc by emitting infrared light to disc. 4. If a disc is present, the light should reflect back to the laser lens as the lens attempts to focus on the light - you will notice the lens moving up and down to focus. The lens should NOT touch anything. 5. Upon a successful focus, the spindle motor spins. 6. Data is read and sent to a buffer for decoding. 7. Success.

Region Error: Disc and player do not match

You are usually limited to changing the region code 5 times per dvd player. This limitation is set in accordance with the requirements specified by major film studios. It sounds to me like someone was in the setup menu playing with the region codes, and did it a couple of times. Possibly one of your kids. So basically with this limitation once it is switched the 5th time it cannot be switched again. Sorry for the bad news.

Lost the Welcome/Installation Menu

All you have to do is use the auto tuning function. Your remote control has a menu button, you can get to the feature via the on-screen menu.

If you press the menu button while the box is on and you see no menu, change your television's input to match what the box's output is.

Video/dvd/cd play but no sound from speakers

Try changing "audio" setup in your TV to "variable" instead of "fixed", if you have that option on your TV set up... I have a Sony HD widescreen, and that worked for me...

Sound Interference coming throught the Amplifier

On many occasions high pitch interference is a result of bad wiring and grounding problems. Check to make sure that you followed the manufacturer's instructions concerning grounding and installation of the amp, and if possible try and install it at another location in your house, using other electricity sockets. If the problem is solved by relocating the system, you might be looking at wiring problems (audio equipment can be very sensitive to that), if changing anything in the installation process solved the problem then the problem was probably due to bad grounding and "loose" electricity. Try making the installation as "clean" as possible, avoid tangled wires and stressing a single socket with too many electric appliances. If the problem persists, and you are still under warranty, I suggest contacting your local Yamaha dealer. If you're out of warranty I suggest locating a professional repair person.
