I originally had the same problem but with a G5. Since Nikon never updated the software for the LS2000 to work with Apple I ended up buying a FR1SX adapter from RATOC Systems: connects the SCSI pins to a Firewire cable. Then I purchased the VueScan software from The scanner worked for several years with this combination.

I would like to connect my old SCSI coolscan iii

If your macbook doesn't have the correct SCSI card (SCSI II - d-sub mini 50 pin x2 connector) installed, you aren't going to be able to do this. You will need to find this SCSI card and install it in a computer that will accept it.

Nikon scan was unable to find any active devices

The LS2000 is older than XP and has some fairly tight requirements to work. The recommended SCSI adapter is an Adaptec 2906, and you will probably need to backrev the ASPI layer driver files to version 4.7 (available on site). You may need to boot in Safe Mode to remove the later versions of the ASPI files before you can install the 4.7 files. You will also need to update your Nikon Scan software to version 3.1.2, available online by googling "nikon scan 3.1.2".

Dell laptop wont recognize ls2000 scanner

The LS-2000 is a "legacy" device to XP and the Nikon software. It needs to be connected to a true SCSI bus adapter, and it's actually pretty finicky about which ones will work in XP. Sorry, you won't be able to use this with your laptop.

Connecting a Nikon LS200 slide scanner to a PowerBook G4

Yes - get hold of an Adaptec USB2XCHANGE SCSI-USB cable and download Vuescan software ( This works perfectly on LS2000 - Macbook Pro combo.

Nikon Scan doesn't recognize scanner

I have the same problem (on XP, Nikon Scan 3.1.2) ... IF I turn the scanner on before the computer (or turn the scanner on and then reboot) then Nikon Scan recognizes it. Can't say I'm happy with the solution, but it works consistently for me.

Drivers for Nikon LS 1000

I believe that's a SCSI-interface scanner, making its setup more complicated than there's room for here. Here's what Nikon says about SCSI setups: <> and the Nikon software for the LS2000 and LS3000 (but maybe it'll work for the LS1000 too) is at <>. There's a good set of detailed installation instructions under cineman's entry at <>. Good luck!
