Yes, DVP-NS55P will play mini dvds recorded in camcorder.
Please make sure to finalize mini dvd in camcorder after recording / shooting because non-finalized dvd will not be playback in any player.

If it is capable of reading DVD-R or DVD+R look at your manual it will tell you what formats it will take.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Your optical lens needs a tune up or it has reached its maximum shooting power. Send ur unit for tune up, if still same then its time for a new lens.

Hi, Worldvet!  Thank you for your prompt response.  I began the process you recommended- basically same as Sony DVP NS55P DVD player, but with different input code......the tray kept going in and out and...

OK, let me know when you get this cleared so you can play US/Canda discs.

If you get stuck and can't get to an authorized service center who will reset it for you, and if they don't do it for free "threaten to take it Sony directly" but be nice about it. Sony company policy requires them to reset this for you as there is no region code lock law anymore.

If all else fails there is a way to make your CD/DVDs usable using your Computer if you're pretty hand with software. Its not that hard actually, a free ware program strips the region code out and then you burn it to a new DVD (single layer) and that should play. Just let me know. You can go to videohelp.com and enter your model number and read user responses to what make DVDs work best in your player.

I don't have a solution, but I know that the one about "press Display, Top Menu, Clear, Power" doesn't work.

How to unlock it to play either NTSC/PAL

Here is the sequence to unlock your DV Player. Clearly this needs to be done exactly to access the secret menu. So, you may want to copy and paste this info into a word program and then print it.

- Begin -
1. Turn off NS55P, leave TV on.
2. Using the original remote supplied with the NS55P, press these buttons in order: DISPLAY, TOP MENU, CLEAR, POWER.
3. NS55P will turn on, displaying the secret menu on the tv screen.
4. Select 2: Drive Manual Operation, then 4: Tray Aging Mode.
5. The screen then shows two input lines: Input Count and Current Count. Use the code 00030 on the first line. Pressing zero first will take you back to the original menu, so instead of trying to type 0-0-0-3-0, try something like 1-0-0-0-3-0 so the 1 in the front disappears after the last zero is entered.
6. Press ENTER on the remote. Disk tray will then open and close automatically 30 times. Let it do this until it finishes.
7. Repeat steps 4-6, but instead of using 00030 in the Input Count, use 00000. Press ENTER, and the NS55P is now capable of reading Region 2 dvds.

- End -

DVD PLAYER WILL NOT PLAY DVD'S ANY LONGER; DVD SAYS "CANNOT PLAY"

Try carefully cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that doesn't work, the most likely problem is the optics having failed. This model is not one that has replacement parts readily available. The parts would be more expensive then replacing the unit.
