It might be overheating. Most laptops have vents in the bottom and the side or back. Block any of them, and the heat really builds up, especially in intensive use like showing videos. Lay it on a hard surface, maybe a big book, to let it breathe. It might save you long-term damage.

Why is there no picture but sound?

Can you tell us a bit more about the problem? It would be helpful if we knew:
1) What device are you using to connect to Netflix (computer, DVD player, TV, etc.)?
2) When you use that device for something other than Netflix, do you see a picture? So if you're using a DVD player, can you play DVDs? Can you watch TV?
3) Can you log into your Netflix account on your computer and watch movies on your computer? Can you login from someone else's computer and try that?
3) When did the problem start?

Some shot-in-the-dark steps that apply to all electronics:
1) Turn everything off. Turn it all back on.
2) If that doesn't work, unplug everything. Wait 30 seconds, then plug it all back in.
3) Check all the cables (from power to your TV and Netflix device, cables coming from your peripherals to the TV, etc.). Even if they seem to be well-seated, unplug them and plug them back in.
4) Try new connections. If your TV was connected by HDMI, and you have a different way of connecting your device (DVI, component, RCA, s-video, coax, whatever) try it. If your device connects to the Internet wirelessly, see if you can get a wired connection. Swap cables wherever you can.
5) If you can, try interchanging components. So, for example, try connecting to a different HDMI port on your TV. Try other devices on your TV. Take your Netflix device (if it's not your TV) to a different TV.

Those last 2 steps may solve the problem, but are more likely to isolate the problem. (For example, if your DVD player doesn't work no matter what TV it's connected to, then the problem is the DVD player.)

Update us with as much info as you can.

What is Netflix

Netflix is a service which provides DVD rentals by mail (USPS) and also provides streaming access to television programs and movies.

The DVD-by-mail service allows you to rent DVDs and watch them for as long as you like with no late fees. Depending on your subscription choice you may rent more than one movie at a time. When a movie is returned (in a provided sleeve with prepaid postage) the next movie you've chosen will be sent to you.

The streaming service requires a monthly subscription and can be used with most web browsers and many smart phones and tablets (Android and iOS). Many new HD televisions and video game consoles provide Netflix streaming support. Game consoles from the Wii to the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and the new "next gen" consoles provide options to watch Netflix Streaming on your television. There are also a wide variety of set-top boxes, such as Roku and WDTV Live, that allow you to watch Netflix on your television in addition to offering other features.

Netflix Streaming subscription rates vary and more expensive options allow multiple members of your household to watch Netflix streaming simultaneously on a variety of devices.

What is Netflix DVD

There are SEVERAL services out there now other than Netflix if you are looking for a movies that you don't see on Netflix. I highly suggest a Smart TV with apps on it already. Amazon Prime is one kind of service with Netflix does not have it. Sometime Hulu Plus is another.

Trying to connect Netflix through our blu ray disc player. Get"content error" retry or cancel. We have refreshed Internet connection and still can not access Netflix . What do we do? Netflix suggested

Most likely your internet provider is not giving you enough bandwidth. Also Uverse cuts bandwidth for Netflix users though they lie when asked about this. I have tested this theory thourougly. I noticed that my bandwidth magically improved everytime I called them about in real time while I was still on the phone. hmmm

Do you have to have cable tv to have netflix?

No, you do not have to have Cable TV in order to get the Netflix service. However, in order to watch Netflix you basically need to have an internet connection preferable of decent speed. You will also need a supported device that will let you watch Netflix.

The internet speed will ultimately determine whether you get quality video output on the device you intended to watch Netflix.

You can watch Netflix on your computer or you can use a device (generally now called a media device) that will allow for you to watch Netflix on your TV.

The Netflix app comes on many different media devices, which you essentially plug to you TV and connect to your home Internet connection.

Newer TV have the Netflix app built in to them as well as Internet. These TVs are referred to as Smart TV.

Right of the top of my head are the following Netflix capable devices Xbox 360, Roku, Wii...

Here are a list of other supported devices on Netflix's Website:

Setting up wii for netflix

Netflix Instant is available for streaming on your Wii gaming console by early spring 2010. If you have a Netflix subscription you can watch movies and episodes easily on your TV through your Wii console. This article will detail the important things you will need to make sure that you can watch Netflix from the Wii.
Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need

  • Netflix subscription
  • Nintendo Wii gaming console
  • Broadband internet
    • 1 Check you Netflix subscription. The minimum subscription plan to watch Netflix instantly is the unlimited 1 DVD at a time plan or otherwise the $8.99 plan. This plan allows to watch movies instantly with unlimited monthly hours.
    • 2 Check internet bandwidth on your broadband connection. According to Netflix the minimum bandwidth requirement is 1.5Mbps. Netflix recommends for watching movies instantly a 3.0Mbps connection. Check with your internet service provider to confirm that these download speeds.
    • 3 A wired connection to your Wii console. An ethernet connection to your Wii console would be preferable. Unfortunately the Wii console does not have an ethernet port but a USB port. A USB LAN Adapter can be found at most computer supply merchants or online from Wii or Amazon.com. The ethernet connection is an ethernet wire from your home LAN router connected to your USB LAN adapter. The USB LAN adapter is then connected to the USB port on the Wii console. This connection will be how Netflix provides the movie streaming feed to the Wii.
    • 4 Sign up at the Netflix website for the Streaming Disc. Netflix will send a specially programmed disc to setup the Wii for watching the movies. When the disc arrives Netflix will provide instructions on how to install onto the Wii gaming console.
