ILo-26HD Tv No matter what I do the picture never takes up the whole screen, even with a widescreen DVD, in widescreen mode the picture is streched out to the full width, but the height is not the full height of the screen giving me a black bar above and below a distorted picture, the best I can do is watch in the 'movie' mode and the image appears like a letterbox with a black border all around.

the borders of the television are black and 2 to 3 inches around the portion of the screen that shows the program or movie or video game I am trying to watch.

Sanyo HT30744 Aspect Ratio Help

Do you still have the original remote? If so there is a button that says "Pix shape" that will change your aspect ratio for you. If you are watching something in HD it should say "full". If it is analog it will say "normal" in 4x3 format. If you want it stretch hit it till it says "zoom 1" or "zoom 2". If you don't have the original remote I am not sure how you would change it. You can find them on ebay if you need one. Hope this helps.

Let me guess, you bought this from Walmart?

If you can return it, do so, otherwise the best place to start is to follow the inputs to the board to the screen.

One thing to try is unplug it for 8 hours to hard reset it and see if that makes a difference. These tvs have a history of having this problem and most likely the signal processor is at fault if nothing else looks bad.

Widescreen

Unfortunately, a cinema screen is even wider than a widescreen TV. Because of this (in order to keep the original aspect ratio), even with a widescreen TV you still end up with the black bars top and bottom.

Check the aspect ratio of the DVD (Should be printed on the back of the case somewhere).

Unless it says 1.85:1 or 16:9 Anamorphic, you will get the black bars. (Many films on DVD are 2.35:1 or even wider!)

Have you got any different picture modes on your TV. I've got a Toshiba and it has something called 'cinema mode' which does eliminate the bars. Unfortunately it does it by zooming in on the picture slightly, so you loose a bit off the side of the picture and the image does get a little grainier.

Hope this helps.
