After making sure that only the DSL line is connected and the regular phone line is disconnected, from your tower computer, have you tried removing and reinstalling the Lexmart?

Hi Brenda,

Your All In One wants a phone line hooked directly to it. It won't fax without a "POTS" line directly hooked to it. POTS stands for "Plain Old Telephone Service" which is the line with good old dial tone on it.

We have BT broadband. When we occasionally have to reset the router, everything except the 2 Dell Dimension 5150 desktops works via wireless. They refuse to reconnect. All the other Desktops / laptops work...

Not sure exactly what your hardware setup is, but I would reboot the broadband router, then reboot the wireless router. Everything should come up clean, but give it at least 5 min. To help connect after reboots, you can choose "repair" from the wireless icon in the system tray (XP?) or renew your IP address. Start --> Run... and type ipconfig /renew

Hope this helps!

Have you tried to reformat or wipe out your computer? If not I would go ahead and do this with a clean installation of the OS. If it continues to act up , then you definitely have a hardware issue. Please post back after you do this or have done this already.

Have new lexmark 4800....wireless printer etc How do I receive fax w/o a phone line attached to equipment??

you cannot, you have to still have a landline connected to the fax, as the broadband is a different thing altogether, just get a double splitter adaptor from your wall socket and then connect the landline in one and your broadband filter in another, or just unplug the broadband and plug in normal phone line when you need to fax

it should work as long as you have the right drivers for the operating system you are running. try downloading new drivers for it on the net.
drivers should be located here under drivers and downloads

Trying to hook-up a lexmark 5000 series printer/scan/fax to a ge cordless built in answering machine telephone through the computer

No.  Unless you're running Asterisk, which you can go read up on, you want to use a line splitter to have the FAX and phone both on the same line.

Can a Lexmark X4270 be used as a stand alone copier and fax without being hooked to the computer?

Absolutely! The only thing needed for use as a fax is being plugged into a live phone line. These are specifically designed for just that purpose so the computer does not have to be left running while fax machine and copier remain on in the office. Mainly so the office can shut down the computer when not needed to save power when not needed. Ex. to receive faxes at night when the office is closed. You only need to leave the printer on and it will function as a stand alone copier fax machine. The computer is only required when you want to print a document or scan a page and save it. I hope this fully answers your question.
If you have others feel free to ask.

Installed Lexmark 1240 but when I try to set up fax it says no modem found

Yes, This assumes that you are hooking the printer upto a 56k/Fax modem on the Computer, Which the Printer already has itself, What you will want to do, Is hook a Phone line upto the the Printer in the appropriate slot, and dont worry about setting the Fax feature up on your Computer, Just Worry about the Scanner, printer. For the Fax Feature, Dial the number on the Printer and It should work without Ever touching the Computer

Lexmark x6150 unalbe to fax phone line is active using dsl

Hey Tony - Did you recently hook this up to the DSL for the first time? This unit is supposedly not able to work with a DSL line.

The fax modem in your AIO is an analog device and cannot be used on an ISDN, DSL, or PBX digital phone service. However, you can connect certain devices to your AIO that let you use the fax function in addition to these digital phone services.

To connect without an unsupported line:
Connect an active telephone cable from the AIO to the telephone wall jack.

To connect with an unsupported line:
If you use an ISDN phone service, you can connect to an analog telephone port (an R-interface port) on an ISDN terminal adapter.
For more help and to request an R-interface port, contact the ISDN provider.
If you use a DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) phone service, you can connect to a DSL filter or router that will allow for some analog (rather than digital) use.
If you use a PBX phone service, you can install an analog phone line for a fax machine.

If this was working on the DSL let me know. I don't know the location but obviously a separate phone jack is the easiest. Let me know. If this helps you fix it you can rate this as fixed. If you are just going to rate this as helpful I'd rather you please not rate it and just add a comment and say thanks for the info.
If you need more help just add a comment and I'll be glad to assist you further. Thanks.

Jeff
