Question about Sony VAIO PCV-RZ40C1B PC Desktop

1 Answer

My Vaio has a129 D drive but only a 13m C drive. Despite moving everything I can to the D drive I am now down to 2.5 mg on the C drive. Why did they build them this way? How do I either enlarge the C drive or move everthing to the D drive? Thanks Tom

Here is what you can do... 1. Copy all crucial data to any external drive, if you have one. Make the partitions again and reload everything. OR 2. We have utilities like Partition Magic, which help you change your partitions, like you can increase the disk space available. good luck

Adding more hard space

If you are running out of hard disk space you need to do disk maintenance to recover lost disk space.
Please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

If you still need more disk space you can add another hard disk to your computer as a slave hard drive. You can move your data to this new hard drive and free up disk space on your C Drive.

My Sony Vaio PCV RZ 30GN2, "C" Drive is full. The "D" Drive is only half full. So, my question is: 1) Are the "C" and "D" drives only logical drives created by...

To check to see if you have one or two hard drives, go to the BIOS, if the BIOS detects one hard drive then your hard drive has two partitions which is the C and D drives.
To create a single partition C drive or make the C driver larger size and the D driver by a equal smaller size then you need a program like Partition Magic.

If your external hard drive is formatted, open your Explorer or whatever browser you use and move complete folders at a time. If you do that gradually the C drive will ease up and work faster.
When you have moved as much as you want to drive E, use drive E as a large memory bank.
It is possible to put your new drive as a slave in your desktop and move files like that or indeed place the new empty drive into your descktop as drive C, format it and install your system files on it from your system disk. It is also possible to clone the C drive onto your E drive using software available online. When it has cloned the disk check that it all works and then put the new drive as drive C removing the old C drive.
Hope that is not too confusing.

Almost sounds like your wizard ended up coping everything to your new hard drive. And when you do this usually it causes the copied system to not boot. What you need to do is put your old hard drive in the system and make it the secondary drive and then get the new hard drive and make it the primary hard drive. When you do this you need to install Windows from your Operating System disc if you have one. Once you do this you can put all then needed data from your old hard drive onto then new one. Usually the one and only thing people need on the old hard drive is the documents and settings folder it will usually have everything you have ever saved to your computer unless you have things elsewhere like directly on the c drive instead of on the desktop or in your documents. If you need further assistance don't hesitate to reply.

Vaio All in One VGC-LV140J monitor flicker problem-Please Help!

if it is under warranty send it in for repair. if you have done the searching yourself and the solution Sony tech support gave you didn't work my best guess would be that it is a hardware problem, not a software problem. also i would keep the de-fragging down to once a week. i am not sure about the more modern hard drives, but i have been told by pc technicians that overdoing it can ultimately cause hard drive faults and failures.

Computer crashing message at start up

If it's telling you that you're about to lose everything on the disk then you should probably buy a new HDD!
You can get a 500 GB HDD for about €50, which should last you a fair while.
Don't waste time or you may irreplaceably lose everything you have.
When installed get everything copied over to the new hdd straight away

Lost recovery dist for sony vaio pcv-rx500

I had an RX540 and I can tell you absolutely that you have NO options other than hopefully finding it in the classifieds. Sony is rigid about not only programs but also hardware that originally came with it.

You didnt mention you were having any problems right now so I assume all is up and running well? If so, I recommend 'ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE' its a back up program of my choice that lets you back up the entire operating system or just programs and you can back it up by making restore disk sets or simply cloning the whole drive to another drive. There are other programs that do this but I have tried a few and many times when you back up programs they will restore ok but then ask you for serial numbers. ACRONIS has only done that with one program that I have seen.

So simply..
search for a program that auto-copies all your serial numbers OR mark them down yourself and make some restore discs using Acronis or something similar.

I would also suggest cleaning any old files etc off your drive and running a scandisk and defrag before you do the back ups.(for good quality and speed)

When you back up.. back up the entire operating system AND all the programs.
If you only select operating system, all you will have is windoze.
In the future you can totally foul your windoze and simply boot to the Acronis recovery cd and the back ups ON CD and it will restore your computer.

Or.. do what I do. Once you have everything perfect, simply clone the entire drive to another drive and if it ever messes up just swap out the hard drive like changing a light bulb.*s* (always save your serials.)
By the way, a hard drive needs to be about 1/3 empty to work well and fast because there are windows memory and swap file issues. So free up some space for good performance ok ?

I hope this was helpful. good luck.*s*

Hi I have a Sony Vaio VGN-S1HP (model PCG-6C1M). It is too slow and running out of hard drive space. I would like to know if I can upgrade the processing power and also increase the hard drive from 40g to...

Well I would recommend upgrading your RAM to 2 GB (Your standard model comes with 1/4 of that) and a 250 GB drive. The RAM would cost you about $80 in parts and perhaps $30 labour and the hard drive should be about $60 in parts and $20 labour. I don't recommend upgrading processors as it can cause warranty problems down the road.
