Question about Frigidaire FRS23KF7AB Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Refrigerator stops cooling, but if I adjust the temp it restarts

My "freezer on top" Sears refrigerator stopped (no fan, no compressor) and all compartments got warm. I cleaned all coils, removed inner panels in freezer, everything looked fine. After many hours it began running again and cooled down to zero degrees in freezer and 49 degrees in frig compartment. After a few hours it clicked off again. I adjusted the temp comtrol slightly and it came back on again. and so on and so on...

What's causing it to stop and not restart itself?

Refrigerator is not cooling properly both, freezer and bottom section. I have adjusted temp settings but no luck. Have any recommendations.

Start with the compressor, make sure it and condenser fan are running, then check the inside fan and check for ice buildup on freezer coils which would indicate a defrost problem. go from there

The fridge and freezer do not get cool. the compressor does not come on but the fan does when the temp setting is adjusted

Hi,

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.

If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...

Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Your problem is almost surely caused by the failure of the fan that should circulate cooled air from the freezer section to the refrigerator. If you check for vents, normally in the rear of the fridge, and hold your fingers in front of them while you hear the compressor running, you should easily feel cold air coming from them if the fan is running.
To determine whether you want to have it serviced or replace the fan yourself, try entering your model number on the Sears PartsDirect website to see if your unit is one of thousands of non-Sears appliances in their library. If they do, then you will find an illustrated parts drawing with part numbers.

Fridge not cooling

If the refrigerator isn't cool, you need to answer some questions, then see if the compressor is running. First, answer these questions: Is the refrigerator completely dead? If so, see “It's stopped completely.” Is the thermostat knob turned to the proper setting? If not, reset it. Next, see if the compressor motor is running The compressor is a football-sized case with no apparent moving parts. It's on the outside of the refrigerator at the back near the bottom. If it is humming or making a continuous noise and your refrigerator is still not cooling, there may be a more serious problem with one or more of several different components, we recommend contacting a qualified appliance repair technician for further help. If the compressor is not running but you do have power to the refrigerator, there may be a problem with one or more of these: The compressor The Thermostat The overload, relay, or capacitor The defrost timer The condenser fan motor

Kenmore top freezer fridge does not cool but freezer works

Turned refrigerator off for 8 hours, let the frost melt and the fan in the freezer worked again. The compressor now only has a soft clunk when it goes off.

GE PCG23NHMF side by side fridge freezer - stopped cooling

Although this machine is supposed to be frost-free (i.e. automatic defrost), there was a build up of frost. We manually defrosted the machine, then restarted it - the noise has stopped and the freezer and fridge are now working. However, this may be a temporary solution.
