I say you have a lose board on the crt picture tube neck also is where the filament pins which are not making connection check and solder all connections on pix board also plug the board on the pins good and tight must be pluged on crt all the way

I had a similar problem with my plasma tv. I fixed it buy taking off the back
panel then at the bottom there is another panel. Under that panel are the ribbon
connectors for the picture. Looks like your 1st ribbon has the
problem. Maybe it has come losses, not sure but pull the both ribbon out and plug
it back in. Or if you pull out the first connector ad leave it out then turn the
tv back on ad see if that leave another plank part of the tv. If so then u have
found your problem.
that silver box is called TV tuner (see picture ) ............ but in your case that is not the problem ......... after 4 or 5 yrs (depending on usuage ) in some TVs on mainboard & CRT tube's circuit board at some soldering joints cracks develops ... then due to loose contact TV behaves as you have described ........ when you are hitting that lightly on its side then these cracks at soldering joints are getting connected temporarly & for few seconds or minutes you are getting normal picture ....... so solution is most of the soldering joints on mainboard & on CRT circuit board has to be resoldered ....... only good tv service engineer can do this without shorting joints or damaging components..... so that silver box ( TV tuner ) is not the problem because when it gets deffective then you will get picture that comes when tv is switched on ---- usually it will be blue screen ......& also if you connect dvd you will get picture normally ...only thing is that you won't get picture from cable or antenna ..............
It may be a dry solder point somewhere near the vertical IC. First take look at the solder points and if you found cracks pls resolder it. if the lines continous you have to replace Caps near the vertical or circuit.thank you
look for the vertical section of the printed circuit board.there is a vertical driver ic and it is maybe bad...... either the soldering,or the ic.
if you bang on the tv and the picture regains deflection, there is a bad solder joint or connection.
there are a few capacitors too 100mf 25 volt 4.7 50v also 22mf at 50v
If the picture is closing (top to bottom) and goes back to normal when you hit it you probably have a bad solder connection on IC501 (location number) the vertical deflection IC on a metal heat sink. If you mean outwards as in side to side as it looks in the picture, I don't know specifically where to solder but get a magnifying glass and look for suspected bad solder connections. Look for the word width if it is there. It is good that you a confident in soldering.
Sets that have been hit by lightning can be very tricky to repair sometimes. it could be as simple as a shorted bridge rectifier, a current limiting resistor, or maybe an open PC trace on the board. I have seen some sets hit by lightning that took out almost every IC, tuner, several resistors, and burned several PC traces up. This repair will be up to you, if you want to spend the estimate fee, as it is highly possible that this set will not be worth the repair. Good Luck
probably you need to replace the picture tube or maybe theres a loosed connection in the high voltage circuit or the video circuit due to the fall. if the picture tube is the problem, you better buy a new tv coz replacing it is not practical and economical. but if it is only loosed connection just bring it to a qualified technician for sure he will not charge you too much for this problem. good luck!
this modle has a bad solder connection near the horizontal o/p transistor that causes the picture to fade in & out.the bad solder connection is on a small coil. the coil winding is typically red. looking at the back of the tv, the flyback has the rid wire going to the top of the tube, the horizontal o/p transistor is to the left & in font of the flyback, it's attached to an aluminum heatsink. directly in font of this heatsink is the coiul you are looking for, it should have a location id of L14XXX or L4XXX if I remember corectly.
