Section
4 is flashing red Means
- Hardware Failure
The Specific Type of hardware failure can be determined by the error code displayed on the screen.
If the screen is blank or you would like additional information follow the instructions for determining the secondary error code in the section below

E64: (not yet known)

E65: DVD Drive Error.... DVD Timeout, Wrong firmware, dvd is without f/w chip, etc.

E67: Hard Drive Error... It could be a problem with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it

E68: Hard Drive Error... It could be a problem with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it, This can also be caused by a Hard Drive Eprom Error.

E69: Hard Drive Error... It could be a problem with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it

E71: (not yet known)

E73: (not yet known)

E74: AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. (could also be a problem with the encoder chip)

E76: (not yet known)

E79: Hard Drive Error... It could be a problem with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it

=============================

--==SECONDARY ERROR CODES==-

The specific type of hardware failure can be determined by a "hidden" error code
  • Turn the xbox 360 on, and wait till the 3 red lights are flashing.
  • Press and hold the sync up button (the small white one), while holding that button press the eject button.
  • The LEDs will now blink the first number in the code (as described below).
  • Release the eject button and press it again.
  • The LEDs will now blink the second number of the code.
  • Release the eject button and press it again.
  • The LEDs will now blink the third number of the code.
  • Release the eject button and press it again.
  • The LEDs will now blink the forth number of the code.
  • Release the eject button and press it again.
  • The LEDs will go back to the 3 red flashing lights.

You should be able to determine the difference between the 3 flashing lights and the error code lights by the rate in which they flash.

Here is how you interpret the LEDs to get the code number:
  • All four lights flashing - 0
  • One light flashing - 1
  • Two Lights flashing - 2
  • Three lights flashing - 3

The cause of E-74 with one red light Error might be overheating of your console and for avoiding such error in future you need to put your machine at an open space. Ensure that it is placed near the window or you can also make some external arrangement for cooling of console such as cooling the machine through a pedestal fan.
But as your Xbox already have E74 with one red light Problem which can be solved by only repairing it, no other alternative.
Either you can send your Xbox to Microsoft (Please note that microsoft is no longer providing extended warranty for E74 with one red lightError) and wait for 3-4 weeks. If you don't want to wait for a month, you can also fix E74 with one red light problem with the help of this DIY Video, the guide will explain step by step approach to fix the problem. Choice is yours.

I have the same problem, but with GOW2. Went through the codes and couldn't really fix the problem, just identified it. I removed the game, unplugged everything and removed the hard drive. After a few minutes i reconnected the hard drive, the cables and turned on the xbox and it worked fine. I tried a different game (COD4) and it worked fine. I tried GOW2 again and the problem started again. I then tried the system cache clear and bad update fix.

  • To do the bad update fix, first remove the game from the xbox and turned it off. Hold the SYNC button and turn on the xbox. Keeping holding the sync button until the dash loads. then release it. This will clear any bad updates that were installed. (You may have to install updates for games again.)

  • To clear system cashe, go to your system blade (on new dash: my xbox...system) Go to memory. Press Y. Then press X, X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, X. There will be a message that will pop up,select yes. This will clear any cache from your hd. (You may have to install updates for games again)

This may help, its probably good to do regardless, I still have the same problem with GOW2, but all my other games work fine. If a known download or some kind of fix that surfaces that actually fixes the problem other than just identify it, please let me know!
