Question about Mitsubishi WS-55313 55" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Picture size on HD is distorted.

The picture when tv is on HD is to large for the screen. It seems fine on the top but along the bottom it is not even all across. When watching scores scroll across they drop off on the left side. The wording being shown is not even on the screen during football games. It was fine until it was worked on. Now I watched as he hit a series of strokes on the remote to adjust the screen, but he was to much in a hurry so he did not do the entire screen. Do you know the codes he used to adjust the the screen size?

The board was factory according to him. I do not want to put any more money into this set. I just want to be able to watch the HD programing and see the stats on the bottom. The right side is close, but the left side is the problem. If you can help it would be awesome. He knew the codes, just did not take the time to finish what he started.

You did not say what kind of repair work was done on your set but suspect that is was a failure in the convergence circuit. That said I also suspect that aftermarket IC's where installed that are not up to par with the originals. Good Quality IC's and undoing the adjustment already made should cure your problem with minimal labor time involved. To do a Full Convergence Alignment will cover up the problem but the IC's won't last followed by replacement again with quality parts and another full alignment.

I am Mitsubishi authorized and cannot by contract give out service codes (sorry). My suggestion is to call the tech back on a recall to finish what he started.

How do i adjust the picture on a GE D52GW12 52 in. Rear Projection TV? The picture is too large.

There should be a zoom button on the remote control. Each time you press it the size of the picture changes. If there is not a button on the remote, there should be a on screen menu display that allows the size to be adjusted. If you are using a HD cable box or HD satellite receiver, they also have picture zoom options.
I hope this helps

THE PICTURE IS GHOSTING AT THE TOP & BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN. THERE

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Hi, your vertical section is beginning to fail, from your description you have a few electrolytic capacitors that are beginning to go bad, the correct term is they are "leaky", the set can be fixed easily by a tech, not so easy for a layperson because you don`t have the service manual or a capacitor analyzer. NOT an expensive fix, tech will have to remove board, unsolder some caps, check them and replace the bad ones, do a little touch up solder work and set is good as new, any questions? feel free to ask away, if not Happy Holidays, BMW Rider

Yes, you have a size problem you have horizontal and vertical size. Either its' in the service mode or somewhere on the set, with this set it's probably in menu. Must be set too high. I will look for menu codes! Is this an Akai or Panasonic set?

If the television is connected to a cable box such as Time Warner's HD box, the picture mode can be changed by pressing the '#' on the cable box's remote keypad (where the channel numbers are). This cycles the picture between zoom, normal, and stretch which could be cause of your problem.
