http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5aW9WkTFhEif the part number is 3949247 and the lid switch is around 50 dollars, common problem.if you hear the switch click when you stick the screw driver into the hole set the timer to spin, pull out the timer knob and then stick the screw driver into the hole again,if the switch is engaging it will drain and spin but if it doesn't click change the switch.good luck,if you need anymore help let me know.

The screws that hold the lid switch loosened all the way, and will not tighten back up. How do I open the machine to secure the lid switch? Thank You - Km

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your description, "the screws that hold the lid switch loosened all the way, and will not tighten back up"
it sounds like you`ll need to replace the lid switch, but first...

( this is also based on the idea its a whirlpool made top load, but you haven`t specified )

This is a common problem with these type of units since the assembly is made of plastic, fortunately changing it is pretty easily...

( this is based on the most common Whirlpool, Estate, Kitchen-Aid, Roper, Kenmore, Inglis top-load washer, not necessarily applicable to ALL...especially those built in the past 1-2yrs. the model number would distinguish if it applies to your particular model )

Here`s a helpful link for changing it out,

The lid switch will look like this...

Let me know what you find and if I can assist you further.

Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Replace lid switch

You will need to not only remove the control panel, but you will also need to remove the washer casing from the frame in order to acces the switch. It sounds intimidating, but really isn't that difficult to do. The following link explains how to replace a lid switch:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385199-replacing_lid_switch_whirlpool_top

Your washer is manufactured by Whirpool, so these instructions will apply. Most commonly, the lid switch is located under the washer casing along the right hand side of the lid. If the model number you have this listed under is correct, your switch is under the washer casing near the right lid hinge. The mounting screw(s) and ground connector are under the operator console. For clarification, you can refer to pcappliancerepair.com for some excellent exploded view diagrams to assist you. The lid switch is located under the "Top and Cabinet Parts" heading.

If you have any questions about this repair, or need additional assistance, please let me know.

I have an whirpool (LXR6232EQ0) washer. The agitator does not move after the water fills the tank. Also on the rinse cycle, the agitator does not spin. Any idea would be appreciated...

This problem is commonly attributed to a loose or broken lid switch.

If your washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle or drain, the problem is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price.

If you have any questions about this repair, or if you need additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Kenmore series 70 washer won't stop agitating when lid Is lifted.

I have a Series 80 and when I lift the lid it does not stop aggitating when in wash mode. When I lift the lid it does stop spinning when in rinse mode. As designed.

To stop wash-mode aggitation at lid-lift, using the existing lid switch and other electrical components, is not easy and not recommended. I can think of a way to do it (triple-pole lid switch) but I will not detail the idea .. for safety concerns.

To stop aggitation, simply use the main settings dial control. You'll save money and possibly prevent a fire hazard!
