Question about Panasonic Phones

KX-TG4000B business phone system One handset will no longer charge. No display. Swapped batteries: no fix; tried another base: no fix; tried a different phone in base: base worked fine. Can the handset be serviced? A replacement is more expensive than the system is worth at this point. Thanks.

System is WAY out of warranty; new phone $200 approx.--too much for such an old system.

  • hr1832 Dec 19, 2008

Not terribly helpful. "It can be repaired", but, on a six (?) year old handset--now, where would I go to get such a repair. "Buy a new one" is not helpful at all--the original message, PLUS the follow-up message clearly states that a new handset is around $200--more than the system is worth. So to recommend buying a new one--well, not particularly attentive to my comments.

Hi,
You can give a try by opening handset by yourself and check battery hook up terminal might have cold solder joints or in charging circuit nearby.
You can have service manual for KX-TG4000B from Manual Zone with little fee if you have knowledge of electronics for troubleshooting.

Hi hr1832,

It sounds as though a power-related component in the handset is simply worn out - this happens with age. While the individual component could be isolated and replaced, it's almost certainly not worth the expense. A new phone will probably cost you less.

I'm sorry I can't offer you better news - please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Kind regards,
H2H

I would definatly recommend getting a new system. Not only for ease of use but for security purposes. Newer phones have better updated security protocols than the old ones. Privacy is everything in a business world dont wanna have to worry about who is listening in.

Going for a new device at this point is much advisable.as this can be repaired but this will not be permanent fix att all.

Hi,

The best solution is to get this repaired if it is under warranty from the company.Or else please switch to a new one.

Increase number of rings

You can select the desired ringer patterns of the base unit and cordless

handsets. 4 patterns are available for each line. Your phone comes from

the factory set to pattern 1. Programming must be carried out

separately for the base unit and cordless handset(s).

Make sure that the base unit/cordless handset is in the standby mode.

Base Unit Handset

4 Enter the desired pattern using

the dialing buttons ((1) to (4)) for

each line. To move to another

line, press H or I.

• Each time you select a pattern, it

rings.

5 Press (ENTER).

• A beep sounds.

• To return to the standby mode,

press (EXIT).

1 Press (FUNCTION).

2 Press or until the arrow

points to "Ringer setting",

and press H.

3 Press or until the arrow

points to "Ringer pattern",

and press H.

• The current settings are displayed.

I have a Panasonic KX-TG5633. It has worked fine for several years. suddenly one of the handsets no longer syncs to the base. I've followed the instructions to register it to the base, but it refuses to...

I am so tired of all the answers that don't help by repeating standard answers that you already know won't work or giving directions for a totally different product. The fix here is simple but not easy. It's either a bad charging/battery connection, a bad battery or both. Low power will cause the exact problem asked here.

As the phones get older, and I'm specifically talking about Panasonic cordless KX-TG563x but this may be true of other rechargeable devices, the metal contacts for charging and battery do not make a good connection like they used to. They may look perfectly fine and free of corrosion but are not actually making a good connection.

Symptoms include the phone getting hot while charging and not holding a good charge. The phone may show 3 bars of charge but still blank out like the battery is dying. With these Panasonic phones, weak battery will cause the phone to unregister and will give false charge level readings in the display. If your phone gets hot when charging, this is most likely your problem.

I had this problem with several handsets and used contact cleaner on the charge base, the phone contacts, the battery contacts inside the phone and on the battery itself. It fixed all the registration, heating and charging problems. I had one stubborn handset I had to clean multiple times but it's now working like new as well. I used DeoxIt contact cleaner from Caig, bought it on eBay. Great stuff. If repeated cleaning of the contacts with a good contact cleaner does not fix the phone, replace your battery. Use contact cleaner on your new battery for best connection. Ebay is a good source for replacement batteries as
well. Good luck!

All 4 handsets note "busy" and there is a sound like a busy signal. What gives

CLICK HERE for your owners manual in PDF format.
CLICK HERE for the troubleshooting section.

"BUSY" in the display means -

*The called handset is in use.

*The handset you are calling is too far from the base unit.

*There is no handset registered to the base unit matching the extension number you entered.

*Other units are in use and the system is busy. Try again later.

Remove the batteries form each handset.
Replace them one at a time and check for proper operation.
One may have become unregistered when a battery died - or power outage.

See page 35 of the manual to un-register and re-register them to the base.

Thank You :D

Adding handset to Panasonic KX-TGA542M phone. ? how to ?

I ordered a new kx-tg560m handset for my kx-tg5632 base unit, but the enclosed instructions for registering it with the base unit were wrong. Fortunately, I found the old quick setup guide in my files.

If you do not have the same base unit and handset, go to the URL:
http://www.panaxonic.com/RegisterYourHandset.

1. On the handset, press [MENU], then press [0][0]. The handset displays "Refer to manual to prepare base. Then press OK->"
2. On the base unit, press [SELECT] until the desired extension number [H1, H2, H3, or H4] is displayed on the base unit, then press and hold [CALL] until the CHARGE indicator flashes.
3. On the handset, press the [OK] softkey.

When the handset is off and sitting in the charger, the handset's extension is displayed in the upper right corner.

Dialtone problem

This sounds like a radio transmiting problem. This problem shows up first as "choppy transmit" where custimers complane of you sounding choppy or "under water". Google "KX-TGA400B choppy transmit" to find out more.

A busy signal

Hi Kevin,

Sorry for being off line so long. If you have not fixed the problem already, I would try de-registering the handset 3 (from both the base and handset), then re-register it, it should re-register as HS 3, unless 1 and 2 are vacant. If that does not do it, de-register just the handset (not at the base), then re-register it to the base, it will grab the next sequencial intercom number. If it is still failing, then the handset is most likely defective. As a last resort, you can try initializing the handset and the base. Let me know how it goes. CG

Panasonic KX-TGA101S base not charging.

Here are a couple things you can try.

Clean the charging contacts, this can be done two ways. The manufacture's recommend using a pencil eraser. I recomend using a q-tip and some rubbing alchol. Just rub the alchol soaked q-tip on all the metal contacts on the bases and the bottom of the handset.

Gooo luck.
Hope this helps

How do I add an extension handset to my current config?

IF it was a used handset it was likely registered to another base. I just switched bases (1line to a 2 line base). I had to "deregister" the handsets from the old base. I am not sure if you can deregister if the old base is not present? With the old base plugged into power I hit the "function key" at the bottom left of the handset and scrolled down to initial settings. Under registration is "deregistration". I selected that and it put the handset back to its default out of the box. Then simply hit the mute button on the New base and OK on the handset. Worked for all 5 of my old handsets.

Hope this helps
