PfaFF 1222e Timing

I think the timing is off on my PfaFF 1222 because the needle keeps catching on the bobbin casing. I just had the machine cleaned a year ago and cannot afford to take it in to get it repaired. Is this something I can adjust or fix myself? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am in the exact same situation. I cannot fix the bobbin from catching the needle where they hit and the thread keeps looping until I can no longer open the casing and have to take apart the bottom of my machine and clean them up. The last time I took it to the shop (Pfaff) it had a simple $40 repair of a missing piece in the undercarriage above the bobbin. I still believe I could have fixed it myself. Anyhow, t, too cannot sew until I figure out a way for the machine to move smoothly again. Needle changes, bobbin changes, tension changes; none work. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

SOURCE: timing my pfaff 332 sewing machine

There are two parts to the sew hook on that machine. The outer part has the hook point that grabs the thread off the needle. Then there is an inner part which has a post in the center of it that the bobbin case fits on to. The inner part should be held in place with an arm that has a bump on it. It keeps the inner part from spinning around. Sometimes this arm slips loose and a notch in the inner part of the hook assembly slips out from under the knob on the arm. If this is what is happening, you need to loosen the screw holding the arm in place and reposition the notch of the inner part of the hook back under the bump on the arm. There needs to be clearance between the notch and the bump for the thread to pass between the two. And the bump should be in line with the needle when it is in its lowest position.
If this doesn't solve the problem you need to take the machine in for repair.

Setting time isn't as simple as it sounds. You'd have to follow a checklist first before you can do the setting. I could tell you but it is just too long to upload and don't know how I can post the img's. So my best advice is to buy the factory or generic repair manual.

Needle Jams In Bobbin Case Area pfaff 1540

First, make sure there is no debris and scraps of thread in the bobbin area. I'm sure you did that already. I assume you also tried it with another thread just to be sure. I would suspect that the timing went out of whack. The machines depend on a synchronization between the needle motion and the bobbin action underneath. I once had a Singer that slipped and I had to reset the timing. If it is the timing synch problem then it would happen consistently and not work sometimes and then not work other times. G

try changing the needle
clean under the needle plate & in bobbin area for loose threads & lint
try rethreading the machine top & bobbin, make sure to get every thread guide
make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly in the bobbin case

My needle has started hitting on the bobbin case in the mahine, can anyone tell me how to fix this problem.

Could be a couple of things:

Could be a bent needle? please change it for a sharp new one and make sure it goes in correctly, flat shank to the back.

Bobbin case dislodged or not in correctly ; I think these are vertical rotary hook machines with the bobbin inside a removeable bobbin case? Check that you have put the case in correctly, there is usually a long finger on the case that latches into a point on the rotary hook, holding the case in the correct position. Probably also a latch on the front of the bobbin case, which you use to fit it into place and remove it.

Lastly could be that the machine timing is out. Manually turn through a stitch sequence with no thread or bobbin, the needle needs to be at its lowest point down into the bobbin area when the rotary hook brings the thread around to catch at the back of the needle.

If you suspect it is the timing, you may want to get a technician to do this repair but certainly try the first two items first.

While I was sewing the machine stopped properly threading, so I tried rethreading and checking bobbin tension, but it looks like the needle is just not reaching the bobbin, so it is missing the bobbin...

Have you changed your needle? If so do a visual check on the bobbin case area.

-With the bobbin door open, so you can see the bobbin case, turn the hand wheel towards you and you should see the needle come down and the top thread catch and loop around the bobbin thread and pull both to the top.

-If if is not, it is going to be your hook to needle timing or clearance.

When the needle is on the up movement, the hook should pass right above the eye of the needle.

Pfaff 1222E machine not working right

Skipped stitches means a bent or dull needle or improper needle for the fabric being sewn. Try a new needle of the correct type for the material being sewn. If this doesnt correct it, then it will be a timing or needle to hook problem and should go to a qualifed dealer for repair.

Needle hits the bobbin holder and doesn't grab the bobbin thread

Check you have the right size bobbin case the gap where the needle enters should be 13mm approx at the widest point. A lot of other pfaff bobbin cases seem to fit and can be easily be mistaken. I have two pfaffs and have accidentally mixed the cases and had a similar problem.

Pfaff 1222 Bobbin holder stuck with thread

With power off, take the needle out and the presser foot. Remove the two flathead screws that secure the needle plate from the machine and remove the plate. You'll have a top view of the bobbin housing and see the thread that's stuck to it.
