Question about Dimplex SS5858N Mid-Size Heater

Open Question

Dimplex electric heater ss5858n thermostat cycling on and off

When we first turn on the heater it runs for about 10 minutes then shuts off blows cool air and sometimes comes back on or we have to shut it off with the switches and wait about 10 minutes and turn the switches back on. the thermostat sometimes clicks when we turn it hoping the heater will come on and sometimes it does not. we called dimplex they said it was not the thermostat? it was a big ticket item (fan or heating element i don't remember) they said it would cheaper to buy another one.

SOURCE: Dimplex Convector Heater EPX1000 turns off by itself

I have the same problem with 3 of the 5 EPX1000s I have fitted in my flat, although mine don't even warm up. They just immediately turn themselves off. My only conclusion is that they are rubbish. Specifically, the so-called overheat protection doesn't work. Avoid.

SOURCE: Heater shuts off after a minute or two - fan keeps

make sure to unplug the stove take the two rear feet off, remove screws from back you have to bow the back in the center until you can remove it gently lay stove on its front being careful to not damage the door handle.
remove the heater unit from the bottom of stove, there are three screws on each side remove the corner screws leave the 2 center screws until last take a shop vac , clean blower wheel and carefully blow all the dust threw the heating assembly so the air flow isn't restricted. This fixed mine and it works perfectly. the airflow being restricted causes the unit to overheat and shuts off the safety switch.

Either the unit is over heating and being thermally shut down or the temp shutdown switch is shutting down prematurely.

RapidHeat In-Line Heater U395000 [ Bathtubs and Whirlpools,: My jacuzzi tub jets run for ONLY about 5 minutes b...

you have a bad motor - when a motor overheats there is a sensor inside the motor that will shut if down so as to not damage the windings and such. once your tub has cooled down for 10 mins or so it will turn back on. the fact that you can push the button multiple times just means that you are turning the air switch on the back of the motor on/off until you get to the point where the motor has cooled down and will turn back on. if you do not push the air button after the tub shuts down and you finish your bath then when the pump cools down it will come back on because the air switch in the motor is latching i.e. it is either on or off. Since you left it in the on position the motor will come back on once the motor has cooled down.

The fan limiting switch is acting up. It should stay running until lower temp is reached. It will cycle until the temp stays below or at the low setting. Limit switches are adjustable.

Heater runs for 20 minutes then shuts off

These heaters have built in thermostats. Sometimes they are adjustable sometimes they are not, check to see if your is adjustable and see if this fixes your problem. Also check to see if there is any air restrictions possibly causing the heater to over heat.

Heater keeps shutting off !!

I have model 5532, but I think they all have the same problem. There seems to be a safety device in the ceramic heater that turns off if it gets too hot. It "remembers" when this happens as well and will shut off until it is unplugged for 10-15 minutes.

This happens on even lightly used heaters if used in dusty conditions. Dust builds up behind the ceramic heater and the lack of flow causes it to overheat. The unit must be dismantled and the dust brushed/vacuumed out. The good news is that not only will the heater work again, but it will have better airflow too!

To do this, tech support and other people say to "clean the rear grill", but my rear was not dirty. The front grill had some dust that I vacuumed clean, but did not help. In my unit there are no filters before the air goes through the heater element. The problem is in the center of the heater. Taking out the internal fan (four screws on the sides of the squirrel fan box), I could see that the radiator was over half covered in dust. I cleaned that dust out using a shop vac and the problem went away.

Opening the heater was a little tricky, two of the screws were triangle head screws. Once inside, however, it is a simple proceedure to remove the fan. Of course, you should unplug the heater and wait a while before opening it up to make sure there are no electrical charges stored in the unit.
