Look around for micro switches. They might have broke or jammed or something.

Before I cleaned the head, no pic.. after cleaning the head, no pic.. what do I do?

If you can hear the sound then cleaning the head sometimes works. Unfortunately no amount of cleaning will cure a faulty VCR head
By the way you posted this in the cassette and Reel to Reel tape section not the VCR section so it took me longer to see this.

Videotape dubbing deck dead

Hi,

1. Check to see if a tape is jammed inside (see 284 Extract a Jammed Videotape).
2. Try changing the video input and/or output source. Many VCRs have two ways to receive and send a video signal (coaxial and video direct). If that works, try changing the cable for the other method to see whether you need a new cable.
3. Clean tape heads (see How to Clean VCR Heads).
4. Open VCR and inspect any belts that are accessible (see 284 Extract a Jammed Videotape). A drive belt may be broken or loose.

If tapes are getting stuck / enmeshed inside the machine, itis 90% probability) a mechanical problem. Change the Belts, clean all rollers, idlers, and braking pads.
I would suggest that you also replace the Capstan Pinch Roller.

Goodluck..

What is the bias control's function?

The Bias control is used during recording. If you turn down the bias, you will get more highs, but the distortion will increase, and then start to increase dramatically if you back off the bias more.

As far as playing tapes from different decks goes.......

1..Does the tape that you recorded on your deck sound OK on your deck ?
2..Does the tape that you recorded on your deck sound OK on other decks ?

If 1 and 2 are true, then your deck is OK.

If the tapes recorded on a specific deck sound bar on yours, but 1 and 2 are true, then the other deck is faulty.

When a deck leaves the factory, the head is aligned to a " standard " tape. By standard tape I mean a very special tape recorded in such a way, that a tech can tell if the head is out of align and "tweek " the physical alignment of the tape head..

All decks are aligned just a little differently, but fairly close to each other.

first do the mechanicals....is the head of your deck spotlessly clean ?. Use 99% pure isopropanol alcohol and a cotton swab. Never use anything metal to clean the tape head. If you scratch the head, its toast.

If your deck is clean, plays its own recordings well, and those recordings play well on other decks, then your deck is not the problem.

Hope this helps,
Rob

My printer epson LQ-1170 , after push switch on , my printer no action , and I only hear sound like this ( tiiit... ) 5 times . Thank's to mr who help me for solve this problem .

As per my knowlege follow the above steps one of this surly work.

1 clean the head bar with oil (both front and reare)
2 remove head clean it with brush "SOFTLY".
3 remove the head cables and check whethe you see silver pins perfectly and it connects inside.
4 turn the printer on, see the movement.
5 now...turn printer off and keep holdin FORM FEE,LINE FEED AND LOAD/EJECT buttons and
TURN PRINTER ON.
6 keep paper mode for single paper.

Till your problem solves then ok else

1 open the printer change the data cable of your printer and check.
2 clean the entire printer.
3 see logic board if you see any dust on "ANY DIRTY THING ON LOGIC BOARD" clean it.
4 if possible clean logic boad with ISO profile.

if non of these solves your problem try another logic board.

IF YOU HAVE CLEANED YOUR PRINTER PERFECTLY THE THERE ARE GOOD CHANCES THAT THESE SOLUTIONS WORK.

Recording from VHS to DVDR was going fine, then I stopped getting a picture. DVD player is fine plays back recordings etc. However tape player starts to play shows picture then stops showing video and...

Possibly dirty video heads. I would suggest that you run a head-cleaning tape through the VCR deck to shift surface dirt off the heads. If that doesn't work, or it sort of works, but not satisfactorily, unplug unit, carefully remove top cover, and with the VCR deck in view, gently clean the heads with a soft cloth or special cleaning stick (these look like flat q-tips but are intended for VCRs - available from electronics/hobby stores) and some alcohol (methylated spirit will work if that's all you got - but isopropyl alcohol is recommended - available from the same places as the sticks) clean the guides (gently so as not to disturb their alignment) clean the pinch roller/capstan shaft - CTL (on the right-hand side of the drum) and FE (left side) heads as well. The whole tape path should be carefully cleaned. Refit top cover (carefully), plug unit back into power, wait until it completes its startup/loading procedure, then put a tape in. You should now have a playback picture with the sound. You only need to do this as required if head-cleaning cassettes don't work properly.

If none of the above cures your problem, then the heads are abraded/worn - let's hope that isn't the case here. This model does not use a built-in head cleaner.

hi rich,
i had this problem it was touching the buttons that lost the sound to the speakers, do you have a re-set button if so press it if not press A or B to get your sound back if thats does nothing then try head cleaning tape as you might have some static thats transfered from your tape to your heads an anti- static head cleaning tape will do the job, you should use these cleaning tapes every week as the heads pick up a lot of dust particles and static that cause very poor reproduction and qulity such as crackling and muffled repro,
hope this helps

Older TV works great alone including sound. Cable TV but no box. VCR connected with cables (red, white and yellow)to TV and has worked fine. Playing home recorded VCR tape picture OK but sound is low and...

Very likely the VCR audio head is dirty which will give you muffled or low sound on play. Remove the the top cover & using a piece of non-abrasive cleaning cloth & a head cleaning fluid gently rub the audio head to clean it. The audio stack sits to the right hand side of the deck, it is usually a siler block which will be placed in front of a black roller. The head is on the side of the stack facing toward you, give this area a wipe, try a fresh recording & then replay the new recording to see if the sound has improved.

No sound on cassette deck

Hi Does the deck have VU meters?...or a graphic display of some kind to indicate there is sound being picked up from the heads? If there are, and they are not moving or flashing, as the case may be, then you could have a wire off the head, or a problem in the preamp circuit, or if the deck is older, it could be as simple as a dirty play/record switch. I would need more info to help further. Good Luck!
