There is a little program called CPUz.
Download it here:  http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpuz_149.zip

Extract the exe and ini files and run the exe.
When the program comes up, click the Mainboard tab and your manufacturer and model are right there.

Bios update

How to Update Your BIOS

By Patrick Miller, PCWorld

  • Check your BIOS version, without restarting your PC, by using msinfo32.exe (as described in the text).187437-versioncheck_original.jpgThe easiest way to find your BIOS version is to open up the System Information app in Windows--just type msinfo32 into the search bar (for Windows 7/Vista) or the Run box (XP), and clickSystem Summary; your BIOS version should now show up on the right under your processor speed. Record your version number (and the date that appears afterwards, if applicable).

Step 2: Check your PC/motherboard manufacturer\'s Website for BIOS updates.

Most PC manufacturers handle BIOS updates based on your specific line and model, so head over to your manufacturer\'s support page and check its listings for your PC, because if you download and install a BIOS intended for a different model, your PC probably won\'t work (although most BIOS updaters are smart enough to notice if you try to install them on the wrong hardware). If there is a BIOS update file available, grab it--along with any documentation it comes with, because often warnings and specific instructions are contained in the Read Me docs.

Those of you who assembled your PC yourself will need to look for BIOS updates from your motherboard manufacturer\'s Website. If you don\'t remember your motherboard\'s model number, you can look it up without opening up the case by downloading and running CPU-Z and clicking on the Mainboard tab.

Step 3: Read the included documentation.

Your PC\'s BIOS handles a lot of the nuts and bolts ISO Recorder for Windows XP or the version for Windows 7/Vista) to create a BIOS update CD.Other systems will have you copy a few files to your bootable disk, restart, and open up the BIOS during startup (typically by pressing a specified key for setup options), and change the boot order so your system looks for a bootable USB drive or CD before loading the OS from your hard drive.

How to update bios on mobo g41m-combo

Upgrading your BIOS

Now lets go through the various procedures needed to update your motherboards BIOS.

First you need to find out if there is a BIOS update available for your motherboard model, and if there is, whether you need it. Before we go searching for that information, you will need to locate your motherboard model number/name.

This can be done by looking at the documentation that came with your system, or even just by opening up the case and looking for the name silk screened onto the motherboard.

If you have a system that was built by a major manufacturer, such as Dell or IBM, look on the manufacturers website under your systems name or number to find updates.

If your computer was assembled by a smaller manufacturer, look for the motherboard manual to identify it. If this fails, use a program like Sisoft's Sandra to identify your motherboard model and manufacturer.

To determine your motherboard make and model through Sandra first down load and install the program. Start up Sandra and double click mainboard information.
This should give you both the manufacturers name, and the model number of your motherboard. Note down that information.

Once you have your motherboard manufacturer name and model, its time to find your motherboard's model, current BIOS revision and look up what newer BIOS revisions are available.
There are two ways to do this, the first through the manufacturers automatic BIOS update software, and the second by searching through the manufacturers website support section.

hope this helps

I cant find the right lan card/driver for my AMD sempron(tm) 2800+. please help.

Your problem is not related to your processor. You need to identify the manufacturer and the type of your network card and search the drivers
or,
if the lan card is integrated with the mainboard, go to the mainboard manufacturer's site and download the driver from their support/downloads page.

Bios chip in intel d945gccr, how can i identify the bios chip?

Identifying some BIOS chips can be quite difficult. Essentially, there are two effective and relatively simple ways to help achieving this profiling task
  1. Using a software program such as Everest or SiSoft Sandra
  • EVEREST Home Edition is a free system diagnostics, system information and benchmarking solution for home PC users, based on the award-winning EVEREST Technology.

It offers the world's most accurate system information and diagnostics capabilities, including online features, memory benchmarks, hardware monitoring, and low-level hardware information.
Accurate low-level information about motherboard, CPU and BIOS, including chipset details, DMI enumeration, AGP configuration information, SPD memory modules list, DRAM timing information and CPU instruction set support.

2. identify the motherboard model and BIOS version in the manual that came with the computer.
If no manual is available, right-click "Computer" and click the "Properties" option from the menu to find the computer model and number. Use that information to identify the motherboard by going to the manufacturer's website and locating the system specifications for that computer model.

Need a bios update

To update the Bios, you have to know exactly the Manufacturer, the mainboard model. You have to go to the Mainboard manufacturer Support Site to download the precise Bos file for the mainboard for the update.

A word of advice, updating the bios is not for the "novice" users. There are many precautions you need to heed before doing a bios update. Any errors during Bios update might render your mainboard useless.

I want to install a new bios for my memory but I don't find the update, my actually version is the v6.0 (7/19/06). It's a phoenix awards bios please help me :'(

Correction the bios update is for the Mainboard or motherboard for a PC. It not for the "memory"? To update your Bios you have to to know the precisely the model/brand of your mainboard before you can download the new bios file needed for the update from the manufacturer site.

There are precautions you need to heed before doing a bios update for the mainboard. In case of any eventualities or mistakes you made may render the mainboard useless!! If you are not 100% sure how to do it, get some professional help.

If you Mainboard is running ie with no errors!, it is advisable not to do the bios update unless recommended by the OEM manufacturer or you need to run a new function from the mainboard which is not included in the old bios.

Hope this helps.
