Question about Bosch Cyclone Jet Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

Vacuum won't turn on

While I was vacuuming the motor suddenly went out, with the light remaining on, so when I turn the on power now the light goes on, but not the motor. It had been working perfectly fine so far. I've had it less than a year. I've emptied the dirt container and checked the filter for any excess dust. Can it over-heat? I tried waiting a few minutes and trying it again, and it will turn on, but only for a few seconds. Now what? I really don't want to have to take in for repairs. Any help is much appreciated.

There is an overheat stat which turns motor off. possible cause is filters blocked or a blockage elsewhere - no air flow and the motor overheats

Possible bearing in the motor or brush roll is locked up. Check to see if the light comes on. If it does not, then you have an electrical problem but that is a separate problem from the belt being tight. Let us know if you need service....www.rainvac.com

Hoover spirit 900 canister wont turn on?

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
If the vacuum cleaner motor does not run the motor itself might be burned out. Check the power switch first to be sure the motor can get power. Then, be sure the motor shaft can turn freely, that nothing is obstructing it. If the motor can turn freely and is getting power but still won't run it will need to be replaced
If the vacuum cleaner motor doesn't run the on - off switch might be turned off or defective. Test the switch with an Ohm meter or continuity checker.

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Air filter:
If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up dirt and has no suction the air filter might be clogged. Remove the filter and either clean or replace it as needed.
Exhaust Filter If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the exhaust filter might be clogged. Remove and clean the filter, replace it if its torn or damaged.

Vacuum Hose If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the vacuum hose might be clogged. Remove the hose from the vacuum cleaner, stretch it out straight, shine a bright flashlight in one end and try to see light through it. If no light can be seen, use something to run through the hose and free up the obstruction.
Vacuum Bag If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the vacuum bag might be full. Clean or replace the bag as recommended by the manufacturer.

Dust Cup AssemblyIf the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the dust cup assembly might not be installed tightly, or it might be cracked or broken. The dust cup must seal tightly in order to produce the right amount of suction. If it is cracked or broken, replace it. Most glues and adhesives will not successfully seal the crack.
Blower Wheel If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and there is no suction, the blower wheel might be jammed or broken. Check the blower wheel to be certain it turns freely. If it doesn't, check to see if there is anything rubbing against it. If not, but it's hard to turn, the motor is most likely the problem.

Vacuum cleaner repair manuals seem rare and difficult to obtain. The instruction booklet does not contain dismantling and repair details because to do so would make them responsible for encouraging incompetent people to electrocute themselves.

Vacuum cleaners are generally fairly intuitive to dismantle and the circuits fairly simple. The switches are sometimes found to be faulty but it would be wise to assume nothing. I once scrapped a cleaner assuming the motor was defective in the absence of other faults but when I had already removed everything but the motor, when I finally lifted out the motor I found a (faulty) bimetal thermal breaker...

If it was just a broken belt you would still hear the motor running. most likely its in your cord or switch. check the main cord, connections to the switch, and also the motor supply cord that goes from the handle to the vacuum head.

The vacuum just al of a sudden didn't turn on

Sounds like the motor may have overheated. There is a motor protect fuse which trips when the motor gets too hot. Wait for the vacuum to cool down then try again. Otherwise you'll need to check your power lead as there may be a break.

I was vacuuming the stairs, and all of a sudden the light went out and the motor stopped. Is it possible to overheat it, or blow a fuse? Thanks, Brigham

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Oreck XL2200 Bagged Upright Vacuum. It sounds to me that when the lights go out and it stops working that the motor is bad that you would have to replace the motor. It is still cheaper to replace the motor than to purchase a new vacuum. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
