This may depend on 'when' you get asked for a password.

It's possible to have the Windows operating system ask for one before you can use it, but also here is some important details on DELL laptops (and some FUJITSU models do this too)......

DELL laptops have a strange (and risky) anti-theft system, that locks the whole computer unless the correct password is entered.

The idea is that you buy the laptop, and at that point you choose a password to replace the one that DELL built in, by going into the BIOS setup.

Then if it's stolen or somebody changes the hard drive, or DVD drive or anything else, the system will lock them out making the laptop useless.

Its a good safety measure, but (1) it has been known to go faulty and lose its own password on some models, and that makes the laptop 90% useless as the password itself can become corrupted and untypable as usually allowed,

and (2) if possible, to get DELL to tell you the password, you must be able to prove you bought it (no proof = no help as they think its a stolen one). This type of procedure needs you to tell DELL the Service Tag Number shown under laptop on a white label. Very few people/places know how to convert the Tag number into a possible password, its a carefully guarded secret at DELL.

If its this BIOS password thats locking you out, then it will ask you after about 3 seconds at boot-up, and the screen will stay plain and usually just in black with white text.

If its happily booting as far as Windows and its just a Windows password, you'll usually see the screen go blue and a more familiar Windows type of text will appear after about 20 seconds of booting up.

To get past the Windows password bit, you can use 'special' software to blank out the password but you may need to search for a while on the Internet to find such stuff, it's not widely available.

Normally it will be supplied in a form called an ISO file that you write to a blank CD with, and then use to boot the laptop with, and then follow the instructions.

This kind of technical way of doing it is not simple for most users though.

If its a Windows password and you don't mind formatting the hard drive and starting again with a clean installation of Windows or something else, then you dont have as much of a problem. Just go ahead and do a reinstall and you wont get asked for the password again.

Before I post my solution for the windows repair, when you turn on the machine all you get is grey and white? Do you see the Dell logo? Does it try to load windows?

  • Chase May 11, 2010

If the person and or company that sent it can't get you the password then get a disk and I can help you with a reinstallation.

Those passwords would have been set by you upon installing the OS - if you never set an Admin password there wouldn't be one. Do you have the installation disk? You can repair the install without losing any files.

This might be because of corrupt OS(Operating Software) files. About the system password, you can reset it there's a boot cd called winternals burn it to a cd and boot from it. there's a tool called locksmith . use that to reset your admin password, or any password u want.

Pls i want to unkock my dell latitude d620 Administrator password

you forgot to tell us what password.
Is it a bios password or windows password?

For Windows Password, As far as I know , there are two main methods to solve the windows password problem as follows:

1st Method:
Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type \Administrator\ (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from \Control Panel - User Accounts\.
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.

2th Method:
Windows password Recovery software:
for example: Any Windows Password Reset 7 . It is easy and convenient to use.

For Bios Password, also two methods.

1st method . Open you computer box and Discharge to the Board manually

2st method . use BIOS/CMOS Password Recovery Tool
please visit

Hope it help to you.

I dropped my laptop dell latitude its requesting the system password

What a strange request after being dropped... The system password it's referring to is the administrators password. If you never install it, then it usually is blank. If it's referring to Bios password, that too is usually left blank. If someone has worked on the computer prior (son, friend computer repair person etc.) they might have installed a password, I'd get in touch with them.

Good Luck,
