Question about Tomtom ONE GPS Receiver

1 Answer

HAVE NO LIGHTER THAT WILL ACCEPT NEW PLUGS

My 89 Ford will not accept the plug in my lighter holder - and I cannot even determine if the lighter works at all.

How long can I go on the battery? Any alternatives? Will my laptop charge it as well? Will my tomtom work without the lighter charge?

I am an old lady that loves new toys and I want a relationsip with my tomtom?

Please?

How can I get my cigarette light plugs to work. There is no mention in manual except for the rear plug?

Hi,

I believe the first step is to be sure what the problem actually is by attaching your test light clip to ground and poking the pointy end at the center in the bottom of the socket where the lighter element plugs in. While the key is on you should have power and the test light will light up. If it doesn't light up use your test light to check the fuses, if you find any broken fuses replace them and check the lighter again. On my '89 camry the lighter didn't work and I had to remove the radio to find that the wire that goes to the back of the lighter had come disconnected. In your case I suspect that you will solve the problem by purchasing a new lighter element and/or replacing the fuse because it is very seldom that anything else goes wrong with the cig lighter.

Best regards.

Is the cigarette lighter also the plug for cell phone charger?

The cigarette lighter plug should also work for the phone charger as long as the phone charger uses the cigarette lighter style plug(long with two metal contacts on the sides and a button contact on the tip). Most standard car chargers will fit both cigarette and auxillary style plugs.

Garmin screen is all i get, then it turns off

try changing the batteries or placing the device on charge and unplugging it, if both those don't work go to the support section on garmin's website www.garmin.com/support/

More cigarette lighter plugs

Yes. Recommend to have local repair/stereo shop perform installation due to running new wiring and fusing circuits.

LIGHTER FOR MY SATURN

Probably would have been a good idea to purchase a LED 12vdc tester while at the auto parts store. If the original holder is in the vehicle and the fuse was checked. The next thing you need to do is take the 12vdc tester and touch one lead to the side of the holder and look inside and see a center contact at the bottom of the holder, touch the other lead from the tester to that contact. If your light turns on then you actually have power there. If not the fuse to the lighter is out. You can not visually check a fuse, they must be tested. If you have power try to plug in another lighter. If you have to change or add a new holder the center wire is power and the ring or frame is negative. Depending where the lighter is located I have found coins, gum wrappers etc. in the holder you may also want to make sure nothing is in the holder.
