Question about Radio Communications
My neighbor was going to throw away a Kenwood 820s-
but ofcourse i managed to resque it.
Its a beutiful rig-but it has a problem- the only things working is the fan and the-s-meter light.
I have checked all the solderings, contacts, plugs over and over. Nothing burnt as far as I can see.
I only have a simple volt-tester.
Any ideas on where to start ?

I have your answer for you. I have the same unit which had a few problems. Sent it to this fellow I'm about to tell you about who works on NOTHING but the Kenwood hybrids such as the ones we have. He is amazing. He'll take your TS-820S and literally bring it back to BRAND NEW condition for you, just like it left the factory. His general repair price is $229.00 (US dollars) plus parts. If he doesn't have the part(s), he'll actually make them!! My radio was shipped to him in Sept. of '08 and it's now in the mail back to me (Jan '09). You pay shipping both ways. Go to this website and check it out... http://wwwk4eaa.com . His name is: Ken Kemski, 3745 Allenwood St., Sarasota, Florida 34232 (USA). His work is worth the money all day long. If this helps you, PLEASE let me know. -- 73's -- Johnny Downing - email@example.com Jan 2, 2009

What a waiste to throw it away just like that !
Your'e a lifesaver man !
I'm afraid the TS-820 is really dead. But even tthen, a nice museum would be nice !
The parts of the 820 are hard to get since it is not being made for many, many years anymore.
Try looking over the WWW to see if you can find another operational 820, maybe with issues, but with the power module intact.
The only alternative you have, if you can get a grip on another one, is try to make a good one out of two bad ones.... :-(
But don't throw it away ! It just hurts ....

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
