Re: The bottom screen is black .
When you are powering up your ds and the screen flickers on the bottom but the screen on the top works well.that means you have a busted screen on the bottom.it needs a replacement.bring it to the nearest video game console workshop for a replacement.hope this one removes your confusion

Hello there! First of all let me tell you that your nintendo ds can be repaired and it is not trash... what you need is to get the bottom screen to be repaired ....you can do it sending it to the nintendo repair shop or by doing it yourself by following this youtube guide http://www.youtube.com/user/nintendorepair.
sorry to say that your top screen needs completely replacing if it is doing as described!!
the bottom screen and the touch screen are seperate, jus mounted on top of each other, so if the picture works on the bottom then the bottom screen is fine just the touch screen is broken. again i think if the cables/ribbons are in correctly and it isn't responding then it will need replacing!!
if you would have sent it to me first I would have replaced the case for you and you wouldn't have had these problems, but I can still help you out. I have a white nintendo DS lite in stock that I had to replace the bottom lcd display in. I will ship to you for $90 and if you are feeling adventurous send me your parts and I will take off $10 since I have no clue what is broken and what is not, but to me it sounds like the bottom lcd, touch screen , and circuit board are trash. Thanks Josh Boyer email@example.com
When you take off the bottom case, and lift up the pcboard and lower touch screen, you'll see the ribbon cable connected there. It's held in place by a black connector that lifts up. Use something like your fingernail and life up on the black part until it releases (it shouldn't take too much pressure to lift it up. Once you do that, the cable pulls directly down and out.
Make SURE what when you put it all back together that you make sure to seat the ribbon cable back in there as far up as it will go. If you put it together and all you get is a bottom screen that flashes and it won't stay charging, I'm 99% sure that it'll be that connection isn't in there far enough.
I had to troubleshoot 2 of mine doing that recently. Found out that it was the cable that wasn't in there far enough. Once I put it in far enough, they worked like charms.
Replace upper screen and the Upper front bezel. Or replace the upper screen and the complete DS Lite Housing. You can find them on the well known auction sites. Please be aware that you must know what your are doing. If in doubt, send it to Nintendo or a local Nintendo repair service
