Question about Sony NW-E507 MP3 Player

5 Answers

Sony NW-E107 Thank you for your response which was: Turn on the player, and press your menu button. Scroll over until the option displays "format", and then select Atrac3. Unfortunately, when I press on Format, I only have two choices: Y or N. How do I get Atrac3 ? The MP3 had a lot of problems, we restored all the defaults. Could that be the reason ? Songs have also been sync-ed in .mpe format and now it reads that it has no data. What have I done wrong. When I go to the directory, I have to folders: MUSIC and a WPINFO, something like that. I thank you in advance for your prompt reply Doctor mp3.

Thank you for your help. I shall try again.

By withdrawing the songs, formatting and pressing Y.

    Download the songs again.

What if I did ''Restore Default Device'' at the begining ? What does that happen ? What kind of file or directory should a brand new Sony MP3 contain? So that I may know what is supposed to be there ?

If you select Y on format , then you delete the whole content of the disk.

What is the original problem?

If you did format, all files had been deleted. This happened the first time you did the format, now unless there is a specific problem there is no need to do format again.

If after format you get "format error" that is because either format or checkup after format did not complete, or because the solid state disk inside is bad.

    If
"format error" disappears by resetting the MP3, you will be able to use the MP3 again, however by formatting you deleted all your files. Having no song is normal.

If you keep getting error, do format again, if you have no songs inside, that is normal, after using format you need to upload again the songs from computer.

To upload files on Sony NW-E107
you need to use the apposite software, if you use windows without the software, it will tell you no data when you try to play.
If you do not have the Sony Sonicstage software installed, you can download it for free from Sony Customer Support
or Sony Connect (SonicStage) - Free software.

Format problem

If "format error" is flashing, the format of the file system is wrong - it needs to be reinstated as Atrac3 file format. I'm guessing you formatted it using the option on your computer. I've had this problem with my Sony NW-E105, and fixed it. Turn on the player, and press your menu button. Scroll over until the option displays "format", and then select that.

File error

With your mp3 player not playing any music, press and hold Search/Menu until the menu comes up (1-2 seconds). Scroll to the last chioce, which is Advanced Menu. Press your Play button to select it, select Format, select OK, and your mp3 player will be formatted. This WILL erase all of the music that you have on there, but reload it all with SonicStage, and you should be good to go.
