Varimixer beaters are constructed of cast aluminum, stainless steel, and tool steel. I assume the part of the beater that is rusting is the pin on the shaft.This is the only component made of tool steel which can rust. As mentioned, dry that beater after washing, and for additional protection, you can put a small bit of vegetable oil or the like on the pin. This will prevent rust the next time you wish to use it.

The beaters are either burnished aluminum or teflon coated (dishwashwer safe) aluminum. The burnished aluminum does not rust, but can discolor. The wirewhip does need to have each wire dried.
