Question about Dell Dimension 3000 PC Desktop

Have internet connection but browser won't open

This is a recent problem. We have 3 computers here--one with the router/modem, and 2 wireless from that. One of those two has the problem, the other is working fine. First had good signal but no connection, then got connected but still says "Internet Explorer Cannot Display the Webpage."
Already tried: changing last digit of IP address
rebooting router/modem and computer
checked cable connections
Ideas? Virus? We use AVG.

    I have a Dell Dimension 3000/Windows XP, When I click on the IE icon the screen will come up briefly, then disappear and still no internet connection, can anyone help! Someone suggested disabling the popup stoppers, but I can't get into internet options to do it...HELP

    i have net conection ,and it shows at the ba in the bottom of the pc ,but wont show in the screen.

    but other programs ,no problem .ex:poker

    Log into the router from the wired pc. On the DHCP setting (I assume the router is a dhcp server), check that it's allowing enough addresses. 

    Also, you say you get connected but can't get on the internet. When that happens, look at the configured IP address of the computer (start menu-> run, cmd; ipconfig). If the ip is 169.254.x.y, there's an underlying issue. Let's get there first before talking about it.

Try pinging google.com from the problem pc.

  1. Go to START
  2. Go to RUN
  3. Type in CMD [hit enter]
  4. IN the dos window, type : ping google.com
  5. hit enter.
If your pc can reach google, it will ping back 4 successes

I would install and run spybot from spybot.com. That is a spy-ware checker program and is free.

Post back with results.

    Hi Dan, the ping test was a success. Spybot was a success also. However still cant connect to the net. Have lan connected now but no net access. must be missing something still. Any help greatly appreciated, thanks, James!

How to change browser to allow conection to internet


To connect to the Internet you need a few extra things aswell as a network or wireless card and install the LAN or wireless driver.
1. You need to sign up with an Internet service provider.
2. Connect a LAN cable from your computer to the DSL or cable modem
3. You need a DSL or cable modem and connect and configure the modem to inaccordance with your Internet service provider's instructions.
4. Install Internet Explorer if it has not been done.

Connected but unable to view website


You might need to check the security on your router , if its enable or not.
You can try the solution below to check your router wireless security. Note this should be done on a computer that is connecting to the internet thru the router.
1. open browser and enter http://routerlogin.com
2. username is admin , password is password.
3. click on wireless option .
4. look for the wireless security settings.

If you dont have another machine that is connecting to the internet. Just follow the steps below.
1. Reset your router for 30 seconds by holding the reset button.
2. turn off for 30 seconds after resetting it.
3.Power off the modem and turn it back on after 2mins.
4. If all the lights on the modem is stable power on the router, make sure the modem is connected to the internet port On the router.
5. check your computer which has a usb adapter,. Look for the wireless icon, You should be seing an option were in it will allow you to view the available wireless,
6. Look for the wireless name "netgear " and press connect. CHeck if you have internet.

The cable modem is working but my wireless router isn't connecting to the internet.


1. Log into the router
2. On the configuration page make sure the "clone MAC address" is bulleted or checked.
3. Save settings / restart cable modem.
4. After cable modem restarts then restart the router.
5. log back into the router then go to the status page and make sure you have an outside IP address.
6. Open a browser (internet) to verify you have connectivity.

Installing a netgear router


Hi,

It seems that you need to reconfigure router ,you can use following steps to reconfigure router

1. Please remove all the connections from the router. Connect power to the router and then connect a cable from the computer into any of the 4 lan ports on the router. Make sure the modem should not be connected to the router or to the computer.
2. Open up the Internet Browser (Safari, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, etc.).
3. Put http://www.routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm in address bar.
4. On the basic setting page scroll to the bottom and click on Apply.
5. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the Username and Password are case sensitive).
6. Click on lan ip setup under advanced.
7. Change the lan ip to 192.168.10.1 and under use router as a dhcp server change the starting ip as 192.168.10.2 and ending ip as 192.168.10.51, click apply and click ok for any popup message that arise.
8. Once the browser display some error message like CANNOT FIND SERVER, ACTION CANCELLED etc, Connect the dsl modem on the wan port of the router and restart the computer.
9. Power off the dsl modem and the router after making the connections.
10. Power on the dsl modem and wait till the dsl light comes on, then power on the router.
11. Open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
12. Access the router (http://192.168.10.1).
13. Login to the router (Username = admin Password = Password).
14. Click on Setup Wizard and then select "Yes" and Click "Next" on the detection window.
15. It should give you a "Dynamic IP Detected" or "pppoe detected"(type the Username & Password of your dsl account in case of pppoe detection) and then click next.
16. Click Apply.
17. Logout of the router.
18. Open up another browser window and try to access internet.

Can not connect with my home computer.Router and modem working,just won,t connect


Configure the Router 1. Step 1
Open your web browser, type " http://192.168.1.1/ " into the address bar and hit "Enter."

Strong signal but cannot log on to internet. Also uther wireless works and logs on. also direct wire from modem thru router to computer does not work. if i go directly from modem to computer the compter...


it seems that you need top reconfigure your router
following are step to reconfigure router

My computer is not allowing me to connect to the router wirelessly.


If you are not able to go online using the router then you will need to check the settings of the router.
first you make sure that your computer is able to go online when connect directly to the modem without the router.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem only then your modem is working properly.
Now connect computer to the router and the modem to the router.
you will need to open the setup page of the router to check the wireless settings of the router.

I am trying to configure my netgear router to work with my dsl motorola modem


You can access your wireless router by first running you ethernet cable from pc to wireless, then in address bar, type 192.168.1.1 and this will enter the wireless router's software. If it asks for username and password, try typing admin for both.

Set up my belkin g router


You may have to configure the belkin router depending on the type of ISP that you have.

Basically, you can do these to configure your router:

1. connect the computer to the numbered port of the router and connect the modem to the internet/WAN port.

2. turn off the modem, router and the computer for 30 seconds

3. turn on the modem first, wait for the lights to stabilize then turn on the router, wait for the lights and lastly turn on the computer.
