Hi, my Tom Tom Go 710 ran out of battery and when I plugged it in (in my car) and tried to turn it back on it wouldn't, although the green light was on to show it was actually charging. I then tried to reset it and the green light came on as I pressed the reset button but still wouldn't turn on.
At home I connected it to my computer with the Tom Tom program running and managed eventually to get it to turn on and charged the battery. But when the charge ran out it wouldn't charge up again in the car or turn on?
I've now got the same problem with my TomTom GO 910. Thought I'd post what I've replaced:
I've replaced the battery, the car lead, the car dock and I've tried it in other vehicles - no luck. It charges ok from the main in the desk dock. Looks like it's a fault with the device it's self. Pity, been really happy with it and now it looks like it's time for a new one.

I guess that you have already made sure the battery is charged enough to power the Sat Nav.... In the back of the Tom Tom where the cradle attaches, there is a tiny hole at the top where you can insert a small object such as a sewing needle in order to press the reset button; However, you may find that like mine the hole doesn't line-up with the button and therefore you can't reset the unit unless you remove the casing. if this is the case it's best to search You Tube and watch the short video as to what exactly to do! (it's really not hard)
try a reset first, i will assume you cant do this, get a clip or pin switch off the unit and remove the sd card, then push the tool into the small reset hole underneath and hold for 15 seconds, then turn your unit back on and replace the sd card, it should then work if not it could be the battery has worn out as they are attached to the charger all the time when driving, hope this helps
yes, the tomtom 710 needs the sd card which has the maps on it. if you just bought it and didnt get one with it, i suggest you take it back, because the cost of the card often out weights the value of the gps.
if you want to buy a sd card for it, you can get one HERE on the tomtom site or you might want to try ebay.com which sometimes they have them...i just checked ebay for you and currently there are none listed.
Hi, i did the same thing with my tom tom 300 go, i fixed it by borrowing my mothers sd card from her tom tom 710, i put the card into a card reader and copied the hole card to my computer then copied it back onto my sd card out of my tomtom then put in mine and bingo it worked with all the fetchers that her tom tom had and the updated maps it still said it was a 300 but had the 710 stuff try this it worked for me it should work for you.
