Tom Tom Go 710 - Won't turn on

Hi, my Tom Tom Go 710 ran out of battery and when I plugged it in (in my car) and tried to turn it back on it wouldn't, although the green light was on to show it was actually charging. I then tried to reset it and the green light came on as I pressed the reset button but still wouldn't turn on.

At home I connected it to my computer with the Tom Tom program running and managed eventually to get it to turn on and charged the battery. But when the charge ran out it wouldn't charge up again in the car or turn on?

Any ideas?

Thanks
Ally

The green light comes on the TomTom 700 GPS unit when plugged into the cigeratte lighter in the car, but unit will not come on. I have pressed the reset on the bottom of the unit, green light is on, but unit will not turn on.

I have the same problem with mine. how do you fix it?

I have a similar problem, although my Tom Tom never actually ran out of gas. It just wouldn't turn back on. I have tried to re-set it etc. with no luck!

Any ideas - other devices work in the cigarette lighter!

GO Model 4V00.710 with battery charged will not

turn on. Screen glows pale blue. Is there a reset button?

Same here, as described below. Sounds like a fault with the unit?

I've ordered a replacement battery through megacity.com and will see if this will work. Evidently, there is no charge left in the battery even after hours of of charging. I'll repost when the battery arrives. There is a website to open up the unit and replace the battery.

Hi all

I've now got the same problem with my TomTom GO 910. Thought I'd post what I've replaced:

I've replaced the battery, the car lead, the car dock and I've tried it in other vehicles - no luck. It charges ok from the main in the desk dock. Looks like it's a fault with the device it's self. Pity, been really happy with it and now it looks like it's time for a new one.

Sorry for the non solution!

Tom tom go 710 will not switch on

I guess that you have already made sure the battery is charged enough to power the Sat Nav.... In the back of the Tom Tom where the cradle attaches, there is a tiny hole at the top where you can insert a small object such as a sewing needle in order to press the reset button; However, you may find that like mine the hole doesn't line-up with the button and therefore you can't reset the unit unless you remove the casing. if this is the case it's best to search You Tube and watch the short video as to what exactly to do! (it's really not hard)

Hope this helps

710 frozen on tom-tom splash screen

1. Activate the TeleType GPS program

2. Select Tools>GPS Status>Status.

3. Look closely at the GPS output that is displayed in the View Status menu. Data should be flowing even when the GPS receiver has not locked in the position.

The data string that begins:
GPGSV... is "bad data" because the receiver has not locked into the satellites.

Whereas:
GPGSA... is "good data" indicating that the receiver has locked into the satellites. Remember - "A-Okay"

4. Once the data is flowing, go outside away from buildings, select the Satellites tab (Tools>GPS Status>Satellites), and watch the satellite signal strength

My tomtom will not turn on. I have had it plugged into the car charger for several hours. Help?

try a reset first, i will assume you cant do this, get a clip or pin switch off the unit and remove the sd card, then push the tool into the small reset hole underneath and hold for 15 seconds, then turn your unit back on and replace the sd card, it should then work if not it could be the battery has worn out as they are attached to the charger all the time when driving, hope this helps

I HAVE A TOM TTOM GO 710...DOES IT NEED A SIM CARD

yes, the tomtom 710 needs the sd card which has the maps on it. if you just bought it and didnt get one with it, i suggest you take it back, because the cost of the card often out weights the value of the gps.

if you want to buy a sd card for it, you can get one HERE on the tomtom site or you might want to try ebay.com which sometimes they have them...i just checked ebay for you and currently there are none listed.

Tom tom won't turn off

if it does not proceed when the icon is selected, presume data corruption or in fact no data.
TomTom is renouned for this type of problem.
try rteinstalling the map data from the source.

try a reset first ( small pinhole on rear) put open paperclip end in and gently push the button inside) if this still fails then data installation is the go
