Question about HP Compaq Evo n610c Notebook
Probably just a loose connection.
Turn computer off,
take screw in middle of bottom of computer out,
turn back over and open computer and slide small bars between the function keys (eg esc and F1, F4 and F5, etc) down.
Tip the computer over and the keyboard should fall out. If it doesn't, gently pull down on a function key and it should come out. If it doesn't, check your work and confirm all 4 of the slide bars are down and the screw is all the way out of the bottom.
There are 2 connectors for the keyboard. One a thin cable and one a wide cable. You problem is the wide cable, for the keyboard. The other is for the trackpoint/touchpad.
You will see a point on the motherboard, close to the bottom of the keyboard where this wide cable connects to the motherboard.
Slide the connector on the motherboard up (there's a small tab on both sides of connector) and the cable will come free. The cable itself is just like a wide piece of ribbon.
Clean off the end with a piece of tissue and slide it into the connector as far as it will go, then push the tabs on the side down to connect the calbe to the motherboard.
Lay the keyboard back down and turn on computer to see if your problem is resolved.
If it is, turn computer back off and reconnect everything.
If it's not fixed, it could be your keyboard has gone bad (buy one on ebay for $25 and install) or you have a motherboard problem (unlikely).
If you search for service manual for a n610 you should be albe to find a PDF file with drawing illustrating the above.
