Question about HP Photosmart C3180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Open Question

HP C3180 printer only prints grayscale, no color

I try to print a full color picture but the printer only prints grayscale or maybe it is black and white. The color cartridge is almost full and I just injected new ink into the black cartridge when the problem occurred. The printer was working perfectly when I noticed that the black print was fading.

My suggestion: Don't buy HP. I have the same region coding problem. All I want to do is buy HP ink, put it in my HP printer and print stuff. Too hard. I've wasted 30 pounds on ink and another 30 pounds on "support" phone calls to HP. Hopeless. I will never buy HP again. Waste of time and money.

opppppppps! the black cartridge is separate for that printer. you need to use the PG-40 ink cartridge for the black.

SOURCE: Black ink non-printing

Here are the things you will be asked to try if you call support. They may fix the problems as well. Taking the printhead out and putting it back in is the big helper.

Remove the black and color ink cartridges.
Right above where the black ink cartridge was, in the top left hand corner of the printhead, push up towards the ceiling and you should be able to push a button that releases the printhead.
Place the printhead right back into the printer and push straight back on the back wall.
You should hear a loud snap.
Replace the ink cartridges which should snap as well.
Close the printer.
After about a minute or so the printer will ask you to do a calibration.
Insert a paper and press start.
Scan the calibration sheet.
After that, in the menu, do a printhead clean.
(If this is a 5100, do it in the home center ->? in the top right ->Maintainence ->Clean Printhead.)
Do one basic and one deep.
Print a demo sheet to see if anything has changed.
If the picture looks better, continue to do cleans.
In the event that it does not, the printhead will need to be replaced and since the printer is still under warranty, Kodak specialists will try to overnight you a printhead.
The whole process is short and free.
The number for Kodak AiO Support is 1 800 421 6699.

SOURCE: HP 5610 - printing fades down the page

the printer carriage might be wearing out, it happens on the 5610's, may be time for a new printer. The fading issue sounds like a cartridge issue. Try a oem?

Greetings - have a full black cartridge yet prints green?

This printer uses all 4 inks to make black by default. You have run out of magenta in the color cartridge. Go to printing preferencies, Color tab. Check Print in Grayscale and tick "Black only" to disable color use.

HP L7700 officejet printer leaves streaks on black ink lines only. Have cleaned heads repeatedly, changed black and color cartridges - nothing works.

Print in grayscale (black area streaking only) If the streaks are in a black area of a black and white printout, change to grayscale printing.
NOTE: This step does not apply to color printouts.
  1. In the application you are printing from, click File , and then click Print .
  2. Make sure the printer is selected and click Properties .
  3. Click the Color tab, and select Print Grayscale and High Quality .

I bought new color cartridges, but the printer only prints in black and white or grayscale. Why won't the color show up?

check the print settings by going to printing preferences and check if the grayscale or black and white is the one that is selected
change it to color
also make sure that the color cartridge is properly snapped inside.
try printing a test page and see if all colors come on the printed page

let me know if you need any further assistance

In the printing preferences you need to select Black and white.

1. open the document you want to print
2. click file
3. click print
4. select printer from list, then click on preferences
5. look around the pages.

In Color tab I found a print in Grayscale - this setting will print the document in black and white colors, the pages may be diffrent on diffrent printers. look for black and white setting or Grayscale.

picture: printing preferences, color page on a hp printer, select grayscale with black cartridge only.

My printer will print words but not pictures

The product software print setting is probably designated as grayscale. Follow these steps to check this setting:
  1. In the software application you are trying to print from, click File , and then click Print . The Print dialog box opens.
  2. Make sure your printer is selected, then click Preferences . The printer Preferences dialog box opens.
  3. Select the Color tab, then make sure that the Print in grayscale option is not selected.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

How can I print Black only?

Hi

HP Inkjet printers work only if both the cartridges have ink unlike HP Laserjet printers.
If you want the printer to print only in black, Follow the steps

Start --->Control panel -- >Printers and faxes ---->Right click on the printer icon (HP c5100) select printing preferences.
Under printing prefences there u will see an option to print with black or print in gray scale.

Note:HP Inkjet printers like Photosmart C5180 will work only both the cartridges have ink.

Thanks
Riz

Problem: Only printing Black/Greyscale

The printer software has probably been set to print in grayscale. Follow the steps below to check this setting:
  1. In the software application being printed from, click File , then Print . The Print dialog opens.
  2. Make sure the correct printer is selected, then click Preferences . The printer Preferences dialog opens.
  3. Select the Color tab, then make sure that Print in grayscale is not selected

Please let me know if still you cant print color. Its intresting. :)

HP 722C has quit printing black in color draft

WORKAROUND: Select EconoFast or Draft as the print quality setting in the printer properties. This will prevent the color cartridge from being used. - Or - Try another color cartridge. The color cartridge is used to print grayscale images in Normal or Best print modes, so if one color has run out, the printout will have the wrong tint. With a full color cartridge, the colors can be properly combined to create a composite black. CAUSE: When printing with Normal or Best as the print quality setting, the HP Deskjet 710C or 720C or 722C series printer will use the color ink to improve print quality output, even when printing a grayscale image.
