Honeywell Digital Thermostat won't click on if temp is below 59

If the tempiture is below 58 degrees in the house the Honeywell Digital Thermostat won't click on to send signal to furnice to turn on but the digital screen indicates it's on. I've flipped the breakers and adjust the batteries and manually turn it on and off. Eventually I'll hear the thermastate click and then the heat will start up. It works fine as long as the temp is above 58 in the house, but I would like to lower the temp in the house while I'm gone. Why won't this work below 58 degrees in the house?

Thanks for the info, I only adjust the temp about 5 degrees, but would lower it to 55 when I'm out of town for a couple days. I'll exchange the thermostat for another one. Thanks for the helpful advice.

Do you live there? if so here are the rules for setting back temperature: do not lower the temperature more than 8 degrees F from the temperature you want it when your there, setting it back for periods of less than eight hours is also somewhat futile. Due to laws of thermo-dynamics the heat required to recover from more extreme setbacks or shorter periods of time exceeds the savings acquired by taking said action. As to your question directly there are no reasons why your thermostat should not function at any setpoint temperature that it is allowed to set to (45 normally being the lowest) if it does not function below 58 degrees it has a failure and should be replaced before it fails completely. Suggest a Robertshaw or Braeburn brand thermostat, Honeywell quality has slipped over the past decade to unacceptable levels. Unless your considering a Hunter in which case buy another Honeywell.

HONEYWELL thx9421R5005 tHERMOSTAT IS NOT ACCURATELY DISPLAYING TEMPERATURE, SHOWS TEMPS THAT ARE TOO HIGH. This causes system to run continuously, and it always calls for both stages of compressor.

First be sure the hole in the wall behind the tstat is sealed with putty or the like. This could be your issue due to negative pressure in the house. What you are describing may be something different, the unit should eventually catch up and satisfy if it was working properly. The house would just be cooler. There is a calibration feature that can change the room temp +/- 5 degrees but seal the whole and measure the return air temp vs the supply air temp AT the unit, NOT the grills.

What is the model number of the thermostat? What may be happening is the humidity control is trying to satisfy the humidity setting by running the a/c. In the installers set-up, there should be a setting to determine how long the system should run to satisfy humidity setting. I typically set thermostats for a 3 degree droop. Meaning it'll only drop 3 degrees below set temp. Also check your humidity setting to be sure it's not set too low. It should be set between 45% and 50%.

Hello
Try taking the batteries out for 5 min,or disconnect power for 5min.
To clear it out.
Then re input all your times days and temps,

Is t stat in a cold location near a door or window?this could also override your settings, most progrmamble stats will go into override at 58.f im guessing this is not your problem.

If it continues after you reset,i would consider a new thermostat.

Hope this helps.
