Sudden picture problems - color distortion and "negative" picture appearance

I've owned my Sony KF-42WE610 for about 3 years now and all of a sudden when I came home and turned on the TV something was wrong with the picture. Certain colors do not appear to be showing up and the picture generally has a pink tone to it. Overall the picture is very snowy and the best way I can descibe the picture is that it has some sort of a "negative" effect. I'm wondering if this is a bulb problem given that I've had the TV for 3 years now, but I want to be sure before going out and buying a new bulb. Thanks, Chad I had a problem with my Sony LCD projection KF50WE610 screen developing blue spotched. I replaced the buld and it did not fix the problem. How do remove the blue spots that appear?

This looks more like a convergence problem, if you have light the lamp is ok.

Try first unplugging the TV set power cord (and all other cables) for ten or twnty minutes, to reset the unit.

Hi Chad, I was answering to the first problem on my first comment, in your case:

    "Chad
I had a problem with my Sony LCD projection KF50WE610 screen
developing blue spotched. I replaced the buld and it did not fix the
problem. How do remove the blue spots that appear?"

As I already stated, if you have raster the lamp is ok, as you can see it is generating light.

If the blue spots are static, like ink stains that is definitively a faulty LCD.

If the blue spots are on only when you have sygnal, and moving, it can be a faulty LCD, or a problem with several video ICs on the motherboard, this job requires thorought testing the unit, and some test (the ones on D board ICs) must be done with live power and require an adequate knowledge.
This job must eb done by a technician or by an experienced electronic repairer.

Blue points in the screen

This is a recurring problem with this model, along with the 50 and 60 inch models. The problem lies in the Optical block needing replacing. I've heard that Sony, depending on the serial number (or manuf. date), will cover the repair, in some cases, so I would certainly check an authorized Sony service center 1st.
Good luck

Hi 425hunt

When did you purchase the lamp and how long has it been since it was replaced ?

A lamp normally comes with a warranty of it's own.

I've had a couple cases like yours before.

Hi Lucian

This is a common Mainboard failure problem on Projectors.

The unfortunate thing is that this can only be solved by having the part repaired or replaced.

60 " SONY KF60WE610 screen went greenish

Depending on when you bought this TV, this could be the lamp. Does the red light below the green light come on? (That's the lamp light). This light typically comes on around the 3rd year of use for an average individual. I've recently enountered the same problem and will try to replace the lamp myself. Apparently its very simple.
