Question about Fuji FinePix S5000 Digital Camera

8 Answers

Video .AVI generated by Fuji camera not correctly reproduced

I have an S5600 camera Fuji, performing quite well
Now taking a video movie .AVI and trying to reproduce it
I have had :
-no problems playing it back with Microsoft Media players 9-11
-problems in video/audio play embedding the video in a powerpoint presentation office 2003; this problem has been solved buying a Morgan MPEG codec
-problems in video play (audio is OK) embedding the video in a powerpoint presentation (office 2007)
because I have to send the presentation in a CD package to other non technical users , you can imagine that they cannot buy a morgan codec or install it
a) Can You suggest a free codec that do the same job??
b) another way could be the conversion of the Fuji generated video in
another video compatible with powerpoint (but wich conversion is needed?)

the solution I would like is:

to convert the video in some codified format

that doesn'nt require a special codec but that is played by any PC

    with normal codecs //

otherwise if I send a presentation to colleagues

the have to worry downloading some other codec

(someone has not the skill , they can just insert the CD and the viewer on it

    should play automatically)

    regards

    Fanara

please look to my second comment; the final solution is considered teh one that will convert the .AVI format as produced by Fuji camera to another format that is compatible for powerpoint in the sense that both video and audio are correctly played in .ppt
without other codecs installation on PC of third parties.
If one proposes a codec or a program to be installed in my PC that will transform the original format in a new format that can be
embedded in powerpoint CD viewer package and can be directly played(without codecs in third parties PCs); this solution will be welcomed

the problem is that I have also to convert the PPT presentation in a DVD

and the PPT to DVD converters don't accept a video that is not played by itself

    in the PPT presentation mode.

    regards

Hi there,

So if I understand correctly, you need a codec that is installed as standard on any PC so they don't need to install 3rd party codecs just to play the ppt. I come across this problem all the time and is always dificult as the standard ones aren't very good. But here goes with a list you could use happily:

  • Cinepak (a bit of a last resort codec - it's fast but rubbish quality)
  • Microsoft Video 1 (Quality not that bad)
  • Intel iYUV (Quality not much different to MSVideo1 but takes twice as long to encode and requires a good processor to decode fast enough)
So I suggest MS Video1. It's the most compatible and even plays on macs.

All the best

A look at the manual states that the video is AVI (MJPEG). The easy to find morgan codec is good but it's a 60 day try-before-you-buy situation, not really useful if you just want to watch/edit your home videos. I found a couple of freeware codec packs with MJPEG, but this seemed like the most recent/ best:

Windows media player has trouble with it, but VirtualDub works great. Fine, I'll playback in quicktime, edit in VirtualDub and avoid Microsoft alltogether!

Do you have quicktime installed? From what I remember there it uses a quicktime codec.

I use a program called ConvertXtoDVD....it will convert the AVI file to a DVD file that can then be played on DVD players.

Free or not free , it is better to convert the movie into a non compressed format, so that the final user will be able to download and play the presentation without needing any additional codec.
You can do this with software package like Ulead film studio and similar.

It is not difficult job for even novice to install audio-video codec, just click on download link and save / install it. so simple instead of converting files in other format as there isno guarantee that other PC can / will play it.

Hi,

You no need to fix this problem. This is a CCD failure and in some cases had been subject to a recall.Contact Fuji support this may be one of the recalls and replacement camera could be on its way. They will do it for free of cost.

Try looking under S5600 on the fujifilm uk website. The manual is identical because it is the same camera. The S5200 is the S5600 in the usa

I have a Fuji Finepix S5600 and would like to know if you can change the lenses on it or not. Just don't want to break it trying. Thanks

The S5600 uses a non interchangeable lens. It's a fixed lens camera.
You can how ever purchase filters or adapter rings etc to attach to the front of the lens.

I have a fuji s2000hd, i loaded the video onto my computer, but i can't get my movies to import onto my editing program

I understand your problem and I have the same camera that videos in MP4 format (H.264) which is not user-friendly to windows movie maker, therefore, I downloaded or purchased a program that converts these MP4 file back into .AVI format, with no loss in quality, and then added them to windows movie maker on Vista, which then would accept the .AVI format to put the clips together. Once saving to your computer after the files are compiled and can then send the movie you have made to Windows DVD to turn into a DVD formatted movie. Works for me everytime. Unfortunately, this is a time consuming process but has been worth it for me.

Suitable teleconversion lens for fuji finepix s5600

Try the website for a company called "Raynox" (www.raynox.com). They have various tele lenses and the required adapters. Fuji doesn't make them any longer. I can't tell you about the availability in India, however, because I'm in Canada. Another solution may be to try ebay.
