Question about Yamaha HTR-5830 Receiver

1 Answer

No Sound, but it worked last night.

I purchased this from Best Buy and had them install it. For some reason, I ran into this problem earlier today: I have it hooked up to my TV, my DVD player and Playstation/Wii consoles. I can get sound via the DVD player and Tuner, but it will not give me sound from the consoles or the tv itself. It worked fine last night, but today, nothing. Any ideas would be a major help. I emailed Yamaha, and I am still waiting for a reply, but I hope this will get it working faster. Thank you!

Re: No Sound, but it worked last night.

Is the dvd built into the unit? Im not sure. If your comfortable with the wiring behind the unit I can try and help you out. Im guessing your just using plain cable that your running to your tv. If so you should have a audio output in the back of your tv (the red and white one) there should be a RCA cable into this output (best buy would have installed it already). follow this cable down to the back of the Reciever and it should be plugged into the input for TV. Your Consols are a little more difficult. They can run them through your tv or bypass it. Ill tell you how to put them through your tv so that the sound from them will only come when the tv is on (not sure when else you would need it). The back of you consols you will have the 3 RCA's (red, white, Yellow) plug them into the back of your tv in the input ports... Playstation to 1, Wii to 2. There should be all the jacks needed to do this (if you have a newer tv). Now when you turn on your tv and make sure the reciever is turned to TV your should get your sound. Try the gaming consols, they should both work (you will need to switch the Tv to video input, usually by the source button). If you still get no sound but pictures try turning your volume up on the tv, if you have volume there check your settings on the tv for the volume output...some brands allow you to mute this. Hope this helps

Want to purchase a blue ray player. is there one that is compatable, and easy to hookup. I have an onkyo txds 555 reciever and and old apex tv. Want to up grade to a blue ray player( ill get the hd tv...

All of them will work just fine audio-wise with the Onkyo and on some level just about any TV made in the last 20 years if it has s-video, composite video, component video or HDMI video inputs (google them).

Choose one and follow the manuals for connection.

Here's yours...

Keep in mind that no video must necessarily pass from the the BluRay to the receiver but it MUST find its way to the TV. It's best to have any audio or video signal go directly to the best electronics that handles it. That's one reason they can be routed separately.

I've got a Denon AVR 2803 surround sound system. I recently purchased and Xbox 360 and haven't had any success with installing it. Last night I removed my DVD player from my TV and installed the Xbox and...

Hi, and yes there is hope, there's a saying that when something is tedious and or boring to read "it reads like stereo instructions ".The first thing to make sure of is you have a rather stiff connecting cable called a "TOSLINK" cable this has squarish ends and plugs into the "DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUT" of the x-box 360 and then plug the other end into whichever input your using for the x-box. A dead giveaway to the jack to use on x-box is that it may actually be lit up red while playing. it also may be labeled "PCM/LPCM" versus digital audio. Anyway that should get you your surround sound on your stereo. Thanks for choosing FixYa, Let us know if there's anything else we can help with, and good luck, Prodzilla

Disply showing only 5.1 how chaing 7.1? remot option not working (in dvd key)

you have to have a 7.1 sound on the DVD in order for it to be detected. make sure to buy or rent a DVD that indicates on the back that it is recoreded in HD(X) sound or 7.1 sound. I hate to tell you, but there are not many that are recorded that way, there are a few that are 6.1 but the majority are 5.1 sound. you may be able to purchase a test DVD that will have various types of sounds on it as well as differnet videos to try, these disks are made to help people set up their HD sets and sound systems. big box stores like Best Buy etc may have one., or you could order online through a google search good luck

Excessive noise in my speakers

usually, it is background noise. Scratchy background noise. Gets worse the louder I turn up the volume. I ran a test on all the channels and it seemed to be the subwoofer channel. I've unpluged the subwoofer but that didn't help. I have also noticed that my receiver doesn't turn up nearly as loud as it used. I usually watch DVDs at a volume level of about 15 on my Denon and that's quite loud. But now, 15 isn't that loud at all. I went to Best Buy where I bought all of this equipment and they immediatly told me it was suge protector issue and wanted to sell me a high-end surge protector. Perhaps they are right but not sure why it began rather suddenly. Probably not helping you much.

Pioneer power LED is Blinking

If that didn't work, with the power off try holding Tune + and Auto surround/stream direct buttons for a few seconds to reset the protection circuits. Make sure to keep 8" of empty space above the unit for air, as overheating can cause this problem. If it fails again, there could be bigger problems, so get it checked

AV Receiver pioneer vsx D914 does not turn on

See now what happen to me just last night actually was I was listening to music and had the receiver turned up to about -55. all of a sudden, it showed me AMP ERROR and shut off all on it's own and would not turn on.... I later was snooping around my wiring and fount two wires were touching. I have had the receiver unplugged since the incedent last night and I am going to try to get it working when I get home from work.. I know that it is a beautiful sound system and its sound quality is just amazing. It's definately the best system I have owned and I really hope that leaving it off for 24 hours will reset it and make it work again. I don't really have the money to go out and buy a new one.. nor do I really want to... If you have any luck you can let me know! Thanks!

Yamaha HTR-6130 Front right and left speakers with no sound

As simple as this sounds, try hitting the speaker a/b button on the front of the unit, next to the headphone jack. I had the same problem, and was about to package the whole thing back up and go back to Best Buy when I hit this button and then the audio test worked.

All usb devices require power, by pulling it out first, sounds to me you've short-circuited it. Buy another.

If your tv is putting out mono you will only get the center and sub speakers. This can be because the tv is only mono, or the output is set to mono in a menu of the tv. If you have cable or sat run the digital audio out to you receiver; it usually sound better that way anyhow. Set your receiver to Dolby mode for best sound.
