Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Hi. Installed the DGN 2000 Router & I am no longer able to access my Sonos music system. The sonos is functioning fine because the internet radio is ok. However I can no longer add folders to Sonos from our computer. The only set up that has changed in the last 24 hours is the new Netgear Router. Can you assist please. cheers

Drives won't 'write'.

You do not tell us what software you use to access your drives. It sounds like an application has control and has not realesed it. I have had some software carry over a configuration change and no number of restarts will make a difference.

You can also go to start - control panel - system - hardware - device manager. Look under DVD / CDROM manager. If there is a driver or other hardware issue the system will reflect it here.

Can't access internet without unplugging modem and router

as long as your modem has the internet light your modem should be fine.. for the router you might want to configure it to option IP Address automatically and distribute dhcp automatically..if it doesnt work try to update your router's firmware best thing to do is to get a new router ..

I am unable to access the internet. (My computer

Do you have good Ant-virus software installed & have you run it recently. Also use Adaware & spybot Search & Destroy to remove any malicious software. Make sure that your network card is functioning correctly & update the drivers for it (download these from a working machine)
Turn off your firewall temporarily & try to connect to make sure that it is not causing the problem.

Internet no longer working, but internal network is fine.

i agree with all the above.. it's definately clear as mud how the network is designed and or funtioning. The machines connected to the wireless d-link router.. are they via cat5 inthe wired ports or wireless ? is the server the machine thats connecting to the switch and wiress router and modem? i'd say reset all switches modems routers and machines.. shut them all down.. then fire the cable modem, then the wireless router then the desktop switch then the server, the workstations and the one lonely wireless.. run "ipconfig /all" on all machines and if they aren't all sharing common ips and access, provide the results here for further investigation.

USED TO BE ABLE TO GET SIRIUS RADIO ON MY LAPTOP COMPUTER AT WORK...TWO MONTHS AGO ACCESS STOPPPED, ALTHOUGH MY ACCOUNT WITH SIRIUS IS IN GOOD STANDING AND WORKS FINE IN MY CAR.....HAS MY COMPANY PUT UP A...

Sounds like your company has set up a router control access rule for the IP address of the Sirius Radio Server connection. Unfortunately, there is no way around this blocking. Your company has done this to control the network traffic and to block unnecessary intranet/Internet incoming and outgoing traffic. You do not realize how much bandwidth listening to streaming music or watching streaming video consumes from usable network bandwidth. If your company pays a flat fee for Internet access each month with no traffic limit, they are just being protective of the network and potential bottlenecking of datagram packets. If your company has a limit of say 4TB of transmission packets per month and anything over this amount begins costing them oodles of money, the IT department is just trying to keep costs down. If the laptop you are using belongs to your company and is NOT your personal laptop, then more than likely the IT department HAS installed new firewall rules that are in place to protect the integrity and security of the system data. I know that you want to listen to your own music selections while at work, but network and data security trumps your ability to listen to what you want to. My suggestion, bring in some **** CD's with your favorite music and use your own CD player at your desk, then no one can restrict your music listening. If the laptop is owned by YOU, and you are using it for business use with consent of the organization, you are STILL restricted to NAC settings governed by your corporate IT/Security group. I know this is not what you really wanted to hear, but it is what it is. Cheers, Keith

I have internet access on my main router computer but not on my wireless computer

Probably on your main system you've installed a WEP security code. You'll need to install this same code on the wireless.

I can't get internet connection when the router is in place but it works without it, i no longer have my instalation guide or software(cd)

The only "installation" you need for the router is to connect it to the modem, plug in the power and, if it's a wired router, to connect it to the computer.

Then configure your computer's internet connection to connect to the router. (How you do that depends on which operating system the computer is running.)

If you're getting a wireless connection with no router, you're connecting to someone else's router - which is both illegal and dangerous (it gives them access to your computer).

Computer cannot access the internet

Try to disable wireless card on your desktop. With both the wireless and cat-5 socket enabled, "WITHOUT" the proper bridge settings, they will conflict and not be able to read.
