How do i change my security settings or change my password on linksys router

  1. Begin setup of your Linksys Wireless Router by first plugging in the power. Give it 10 seconds or so to initialize and then plug an ethernet cable into your wall jack and into the port on the back of the router marked Internet. Next get another ethernet cable and plug one end into your laptop and the other into one of the ports labeled 1-4 on the router. Your computer is now properly connected to the router to begin its setup and configuration.Next open a web browser window on the connected computer and type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar and press enter. A window will pop up prompting you for a username and password to access the configuration page for your router. Enter admin for both the username and password. You should see the Setup page shown below.

    linksys01.jpg
Accessing the router settings through a web browser.
On this screen you should change the Router Name from its default value to something unique so that your Base Station will not be confused with another. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Settings then click Continue when the Settings are successful dialog is displayed.Next, click on the Wireless tab at the top of the settings screen. Change the Wireless Network Name (SSID) from the default value to something unique (you can use the same name you set as your Router Name in the previous step. Then Disable the Wireless SSID Broadcast option and click Save Settings and then Continue when the Settings are successful dialog is displayed. Now click on the Wireless Security subsection at the top of the page. In order to password protect your wireless network first use the Security Mode dropdown box to select WEP and then from the WEP Security dropdown box select 128 bits 26 hex digits. Choose a password between 6 and 8 characters and type it into the Passphrase box. Then click Generate. Finally click Save Settings and then Continue when the Settings are successful dialog is displayed. You may also select WPA encryption, however not all network cards support this, so check your documentation first. Next click on the Wireless MAC Filter subsection at the top of the page. Then Enable the Wireless MAC Filter option and select the option to Permit only PCs listed to access the wireless network. Click on the Save Settings button at the bottom of the Filter List window and then Continue. Now click on the Edit MAC Filter List button to pop up a new window (shown below) where you will enter the MAC Address, also known as Physical Address, for each computer that you will be using to connect to your wireless network. If you don't know how to get this information follow the steps here. Once you have finished, click the Save Settings button at the bottom of the Filter List window and then Continue when the Settings are successful dialog is displayed. You may now close the Mac Address Filter List window.

    linksys02.jpg
Creating a MAC Address Filter List will prevent unauthorized computers from using your connection.

  2. Finally click on the Administration tab at the top of the page. Change the default password for accessing your wireless router setup pages by typing a new one into the Router Password field and then confirming it. This should be a different password than the one you setup for WEP encryption, but should also be atleast 6 to 8 characters in length. Click the Save Settings button at the bottom of the Filter List window and then Continue when the Settings are successful dialog is displayed.
  3. If you encountered any problems during this configuration procedure, please consult the manual that was included with your router or contact the manufacturer.
  4. Your Linksys Wireless Router is now secure.

Ignore the error and continue printing. The print job might still be acceptable even if the paper size and paper type settings are not an exact match.
  1. Press Enter on the control panel to clear the error message.
  2. Try the print job again.
  • If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.

    7. Change any other settings, and then click OK to close the Properties dialog box.
    8. Try the print job again.
Paper mismatch errors occur because the printer scans the width of the paper before printing. If the paper size setting in the printer driver does not match the paper actually loaded in the printer, the printer reports a 'Paper Mismatch' or 'Paper too Narrow ' error. The error message might also display when you load the correct paper, just reinstall the printer driver if above procedure does not helps. Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Hello, I have an invitation that is 4in wide x 9 inches in height. I want to print something on it, but not sure how to get my printer to recognize that I am using custom size paper. It keeps printing on...

In addition to the wide variety of standard paper sizes available for this printer, you can use custom size paper in the Tray 1 (MPT).
The size range for custom size media is as follows:
    Minimum allowable page size:
    89 x 140 mm (3.5 x 5.5 in.)
    Maximum allowable page size:
    216 x 356 mm (8.5 x 14 in.)
  1. Open Tray 1 (MPT).
  2. Insert the custom size paper and adjust the guides to match the size of the paper. Place the side to be printed facedown with the top of the page entering the printer first.
  3. When the front panel prompts you to confirm the type and size of paper:
    1. Scroll to Change by pressing the Down Arrow key and press the OK key.
    2. Scroll to the correct paper type and press the OK key to save your selection.
    3. For the paper size, scroll to Custom and press the OK key.
    4. Select Set Custom Width (W) by pressing the OK key.
    5. Press the Down Arrow or Up Arrow key to scroll to the desired value for X and then press the OK key.
    6. Scroll to Set Custom Height (H) and press the OK key.
    7. Press the Down Arrow or Up Arrow key to scroll to the desired value for Y and then press the OK key.
  4. Select the custom size in the printer driver.
  5. Windows 95 / Windows 98 / Windows Me PostScript driver: On the Setup tab:
    • After you select the Multi-Purpose Tray and the tray displays Custom to indicate that it has custom size paper, enter the dimensions of the custom size paper in the Width and Height boxes.
    • If you select Automatic for the paper source and select Custom Size for the paper size, enter the width and height values of the desired custom size paper in the Width and Height boxes. The values for width and height are initially 0. If you previously entered information in the boxes, the values are automatically entered.
Windows NT / Windows 2000 / Windows XP PostScript driver: On the Paper/Quality tab:
    • If you select Choose Specific Tray, select the Multi-Purpose Tray.
    • If you select Automatic, you can select your custom size from the Paper Size drop-down list.
    • Click My Custom Sizes and highlight the custom size in the Current Selection list. The Name, Width, and Height boxes display the details about the highlighted custom size and the sample image changes to represent a scaled version of the custom size.
    • To create a new custom size:
      1. Click New.
      2. Enter the new name in the Name box.
      3. Enter the dimensions in the Width and Height boxes. The sample image changes to represent a scaled version of the new custom size.
      4. Click Save to add the new size to the list. Click Cancel to exit without saving the new custom size.
      5. To exit, click Close.
    • The My Custom Sizes box lists existing custom sizes that are supported by the current printer. Since these custom sizes are saved in your computer's operating system, they are available for you to select in your applications.
    • If you create a custom size in certain applications, the driver lists the custom size automatically.
    MacOS 8 / MacOS 9 driver:
    • In the Page Setup dialog box, click on Page Attributes, and select Custom Page Sizes. Then press New to enter a new custom page size. A dialog box appears where you can enter the width and height, margins, and name of the custom page size.

When i turned on this hp pavillion dv4 the control center shows up and doesnt let me exit out.how do i fix it ?

Go to the start button and click on the run box, type in msconfig and hit enter. When the windown pops up, click on "selective startup". Click on the startup tab at the top of the windown, this will list all programs and services that automatically start when windows boots. The only things here that you absolutely need to startup with windows is your wireless configuration, virus and malware protection, and touchpad software to enable tapping and scrolling and changing settings....most of the other programs you do not need to aytomatically start, they can be started when you need them and then you just click on their shortcuts. Go through these [rograms and see if there is anything listed as control center....if not look on the control center window and see if the is a small box in the left lower corner that needs to be checked in order for the windown to not sho up on the next boot. Either way, you can get rid of it in msconfig. Hit apply and ok and restart.

Normally, If you are running Windows XP, the Built-In Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) maybe enable without your knowledge. This is the default setting of Windows to protect your PC from hacking. However, of course, this default setting may block you from running some applications you might need to use like Viewing WebCam in Yahoo! Messenger. Anyway, there is always a way to solve the problem.

Below are the steps to enable you to veiw WebCam by instructing you to ensure that the correct ports are opened.

1. Click Start, Settings, and select Control Panel.
2. Double click on the Network Connections icon.
3. Right click the connection that you use to connect to the Internet, and then click on Properties.
