sounds as if you mixed dd1 and dd2 the system will recognize the dd2 over dd1

can u idot proof that. not sure what u mean. are u talking bout the ram slots? if so i only am using dim1/2, not 3/4. no matter what i do it still shows up as 256m of ram.

  • grimoris Dec 26, 2008

no will try that & post soon thxs

"have you pulled the battery out and reinstalled to clear the bios this will force a self test of all components, If it tests and shows correctly enter setup and save config. did you try that?"

THANK YOU SO MUCH! it worked *does happy dance*

after checking with dell you have 2 sets of dd1 banks capac. of 4 gigs when you installed the ram did it do a self tedt on the ram,

have you pulled the battery out and reinstalled to clear the bios this will force a self test of all components, If it tests and shows correctly enter setup and save config. did you try that?

  • Leslie May 11, 2010

there are 2 banks each bank has 2 dimm slots, most of the time one bank will be for dd1 and one bank will be for dd2

ddr2 is much faster than dd1 but they look the same except for one detail the slot key is moved slightly farther up and it has more gold contact points what is the speed of the ram you used and what is the speed of the ram you took out?

write me at leslie@safecompute.org and I will see what I can find out about your machine form dell

  • Leslie May 11, 2010

on the mb are you given the option to use both banks or just one by use of a jumper? when you boot into the bios does it read the full amount you installed?

  • Leslie May 11, 2010

sounds as if you mixed dd1 and dd2 the system will recognize the dd2 over dd1

Remove the 256mb memory and insert the 512mb memory in slot1 and see whether it works. Please note that the memory needs to be in pairs.

I think the GX260 is mini tower has two different moles
1) PC3200 compatible with memory - 184 Pin DDR3200 400MHz

2) PC2700 compatible with memory -184 Pin DDR2700 333MHz

Please enter the service tag on dell.com and find the manual and the right memory for your PC

All the best!

What's your problem?bit ix38 quad gt motherboard with 2 gig of ddr2 ram i want to add a 1 gig stick of more ram that ive bought how do i do this? thanks windows seven

Top view of motherboard, scroll down. (Thought you might also like to read the reviews, and Comments)

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/motherboards/2007/12/06/abit_ix38_quadgt/2

Motherboard User Manual,

http://www.theraptorpit.com/forum/index.php?/forum/124-abit-motherboard-tech-support-unofficial/

1) On the motherboard the Blue ram memory slot that is closest to the copper heatsink, is ram memory Slot 1.
Also known as DIMM 1.

Ram memory ALWAYS has to be in this ram memory slot.
The Processor reads ram memory Slot 1 first.

2) The Blue ram memory slots are Slot 1 (DIMM 1), and Slot 3.
(DIMM 3)
The Black ram memory slots are Slot 2 (DIMM 2), and Slot 4.
(DIMM 4)

To run Dual Channel ram memory, means there are two LIKE ram memory modules ('Stick'), and they are installed in the SAME channel.

This would mean to alike ram memory modules, in both Blue ram memory slots, or both Black ram memory slots.

Since the ram memory modules need to be alike, they are generally purchased from the same manufacturer, and are the same kind.

Running ram memory in a dual channel configuration, is supposed to increase ram memory 'speed', up to 30 percent.

This is Baloney!
May look good on paper, but in actual use in the field it's cr@p.
Actual performance increase is more like 1 to 2 percent.
This has been proven by Tom's Hardware, and many, many motherboards, ram memory, Processors, etc.

So you have 2GB of DDR2 Sdram, huh?
Is it just one 'stick' of ram memory, or are you referring to two 1GB sticks?

If the above holds true install them in Slot 1 and Slot 3.

If not, and it is a 2GB stick of ram memory, be sure it is installed in Slot 1 (DIMM 1)
Install the 1GB stick in Slot 2.

It isn't the same as the 2GB stick.
It is 1GB.
Does NOT go in a dual channel configuration.

(Catching all this? There is NO dual channel ram memory!

It is ram memory that is -> ALIKE, and used in a -> dual channel configuration.
Used in two separate ram memory slots, that support the dual channel configuration.

Sold with the advertising scheme of 'Dual Channel', but really just means the two ram memory modules, (Or four), are -> alike.

1) Same Voltage used
2) Same Ram Timings
3) Same Chip Configuration
4) Same size in amount
5) Same frequency rate ('Speed')

With ram memory in a dual channel configuration, the ram memory modules team up on the task.)

Some motherboards are only upgradable to their allotted amount that board may only handle up to 2 gigs of RAM which is a shame. But this is the way it is. That is why I always check the board memory capacity before I buy computer boards or RAM for them. The beeps indicate error on the slots for the RAM that is why you can start up when you remove ram one at a time and replace. So use the allotted amount of RAM for that board specification or get another mother board that can handle more than 2 gigs of RAM. Sorry for the loss. Thanks for using FixYa! John

How to install 2gb RAM ? I currently have 512.

Your board has three 164 pin DIMM slots and will accept 1 GB modules (at the largest) in each slot (Max 3 GB).

Look for PC133 164 pin DIMM modules and consult your manual for correct configuration. A 1 GB module in the first and second slot would give you 2 GB of RAM.

Increasing memory in e-machine t2240

Hi slcdane 13. One thing with DIMM slots is that, first of all they are color coded there. Im assuming that you have 4 DIMM slots and two of them are one color, and the other two are another color. What that means is that is if One DIMM slot has a RAM module of a certain capacity, then the other DIMM slot of the same color has to contain a RAM module of the same capacity as the first module. Now i am assuming that you have more than two RAM modules and More than 2 DIMM slots. HERE IS AN EASIER EXAMPLE
Lets say you have DIMM slots 1, 2, 3, and 4. Slots 1 and 3 are yellow, and slots 2 and 4 are red. Now lets say you also have 4 Ram modules. 2 of them are each 2 Gigabytes ready, and the other 2 are each 1 Gigabyte ready. Now lets say you take one of the 2 Gigabyte RAM modules and you place it into DIMM slot 1 which is yellow, what this means is that you have to place the other 2 Gigabyte RAM module into the DIMM slot 3 which is also yellow. The remaining 1 Gigabyte modules will have to go into DIMM slots 2 and 4 which are red.

Now do you get it? Same capacity modules have to go into same color slots. Now try it and see.

Acer travelmate 2003lc will not boot with new ram

512MB (FT64MSD64V3F)
200 Pin Dimm - SDRAM - 2.5V - DDR - PC2700 (PC-333) - Non-ECC

is the correct type of RAM for your laptop.
Have you tried booting with all combinations.

512 in slot 1 --- Boots
move same dimm to slot 2 (on it's own) and try booting.
boot with 256mb in slot 1 and known to be good 512 in number 2

This laptop should allow up to 2GB RAM. So I don't belive it is an issue with the mother board not seeing the amout of RAM. I think it could either be flaky dimm or your slot 2 is damaged
