Ok the problem is not my settings, the printer will not print black, all the other colors print but for some reason the black will not. I have done self cleaning, changed cartridge. how can i open it up to see if its clogged...

  • celialeal80 Dec 20, 2008

I replaced them all, black, cyan, magenta, yellow. all four and the black will not print. i have tried to just print something in black but it comes out blank.

  • celialeal80 Dec 20, 2008

would there be any other possible reason that it would not print black. i run test prints and black does not show up, nor in the allignment test nothing at all appears, cause it is supposed to appear in black.

Either the printhead is clogged or defective. try getting printhead cleaning solution in the same cartridge style and use that instead of the black ink cartridge when performing a cleaning.

with the cost of ink used for cleaning and loss in printing time, you might be better off considering replacing the printer rather than repairing the printhead.

sorry but no other realistic options.

Hi
have you tried soaking the nozzle of the cartridge that couldn't print? If it has an ink coming out already then no need. to test it, just swipe it on a tissue paper, then if it has an ink that coming out then its good.
okay, now try this time setting your cartridge to both black and color setup. as I analyzed your problem it seems that your concentrating on cleaning but you ignore the cartridge settings which to set it to use both black and color ink. okay heres how, same-thing, just go to control panel, select printer, then right click your printer model, then select properties, and then select maintenance, then select cartridge settings, then click the button that contains use both black and color ink or click the default button, then apply and try to restart your CPU. if things still the same, try installing it to other computer. God Bless!

Hi
If printing from MS Windoze, then when you select printer from your application, select properties button, then on that page will be a checkbox for "Grayscale Printing" ,check it and you are good to go.   You will probably have to do this for each print job you send.

if you tried above step already then You need to make the procedure of head cleaning several times after replace the cartridge, cause sometimes some air get inside the print head in the replace. Sometimes you have to repeat the cleaning procedure 10 times. Do a test after each procedure of cleaning, and watch when it was enough.

or install a new driver and switch the paper settings to high glossey paper

The colour ink needs to be replaced, and properly.

The machine can not work even if you have the black ink while the color ink needs to be replaced. When this is so, the machine does not print as there is a danger of sucking air into the the print head so that you need to replace the color ink to print even if you are only printing in black and white.
Laser prints are cheaper than ink jet if you only need b&w. On the other hand, you can buy a lot of color cartridges for the cost of a laser All-In-One.

I don't think it will work until you do have the color cartridge replaced also, but, i want to at least give you something to try..
Is there any colored text or image in the document to be printed? If so, then try changing the document to a .jpg image and choosing the black and white photo printing option.

Be sure there isn't any colored text (even a URL will appear in color) or images. Then change the printing preferences in your software to keep the color from being an option.

So install a new color cartridge, and that will let you print in black and white! Strange... I know!!!!

Good luck, and Season's Greetings from myself and everyone else at Fixya!

Your printer does not use a true black. All three colours are used to darken and sharpen the black.

You have an integrated thermal print head. It heats to expand the ink and force it out of the nozzle. This is also a very delicate print head.
If there was no ink to act as a coolant in the print head you run the risk of damaging the printer when the print head heats up.

else the print head is a part of the printer itself you cannot remove it and soak it without ruining your printer.

keep up with the print head cleanings, perhaps replace the black cartridges, especially if you are using a third party or refilled cartridge.

Hi

If you want to print only in black - try to use "Print" > "Properties"> "Print setting" > "Color Setting"

Or ask "Brother Product Support Centre"

I have a Brother MFC 240C printer that will not print black ink. I just changed all the cartridges. All the other cartridges print. I ran the clean cycle many times. No error messages just blank paper.

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".

This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there.

Good Luck

MFC 790cw will not print in black.

garetg,

Your issue with the black ink only is because the print head my be dried up. Witch me that the ink cant flow to the "paper" fast enough. So by time to rollers eject the paper, the ink cant print on the paper. I had the same problem with my Kodak EasyShare 5300 All-In-One. So I contacted Kodak and they are sending me a new one. Try doing the same. Contact your manufacture and ask them..... :)

Much Regards,

Kyle

My brother mfc-240c doesn't print black. I replace the black with a new cartridge as it still wouldn't print black. I also tried to clean all the colors numerous times, but to no avail. I don't know what...

Wow, something similar just happened to me the other day, my black ink ran out & when I replaced it, it just wouldn't print, I kept trying to print things and it sounded like it was printing but then it would just shoot out a blank page of paper (I was trying to print BLACK). So, I went to the Brother website for troubleshooting tips and it said to make sure I had the ink cartridges installed properly so I took the black cartridge back out (it WAS installed correctly, but I was willing to try anything at this point), so I took it out, gave it a blow, like how you would blow on the old Nintendo game catridges when they did not work-I'm not sure if this did anything at all but it's what I did) and then I put it back in). The machine asked if had just replaced black I said "Yes", then it did another "cleaning", as it does when you replace any cartridge. Then I went in the menu to have it print out a "test page" (the instructions for this were in the troubleshooting tips on the website), the test page printed out with NOT all the little black squares as IT SHOULD BE so when it asked me if the test page was ok, I said "NO", then it did ANOTHER CLEANING and I did another test page, this time it worked ok, then I was able to print.
So, bottom line is, maybe take the ink out, make sure you installed it correctly, put it back in, print a test page, if the test page does nto come out right, then tell it it is no good by selecting "NO", then it will do another cleaning and then maybe it will work, if not, then check for more troubleshooting tips on their website, good luck.

Problem in color printing

I suggest making sure you installed them correctly, you can take them out and put them back in, it will ask you if you just replaced the cartridges one by one "select yes" if they are new, then try to print out a test sheet (which you do this through one of the options in your "menu" on the machine itself, it should be in your manual or you can look online in the Brother 240-MFC troubleshooting tips for printing, this just happened to me a few days ago and I got the answer there. So, when you print out the test sheet it will probably have colors missing and you say "NO' that it is NOT GOOD, and then it will do another cleaning and then print out another test sheet and hopefully it will work then, otherwise tell it NO again and have it do another cleaning, sometimes it does take a few times. This happened to me the other day when I replaced a black ink cartridge and I could not get ANYTHING TO PRINT, it kept coming out BLANK PAGES, so I went to the troubleshooting tips on the website and this was the advice I was given, it took THREE CLEANINGS and three test sheets before the black boxes printed out fully on the test sheet with none missing and ONLY THEN was I able to print successfully, GOOD LUCK TO YOU.

Replacing the cart holder on a Brother MFC 240C

Somethings that have worked for some Brother owners to get cartridges recognised.

1. With your MFC powered up, open it up and remove the cartridge you are having a problem with, then close the MFC, leaving it powered up. It should report that there is no cartridge in the machine.

Still with the MFC powered up, open it up and reinsert the ink cartridge, then close the MFC. It should either ask if you have replaced a cartridge or go into its cleaning mode.

Answer "yes" to "have you replaced cartridge?" and it should either "print" or "clean" and then "print".

2. The cartridge holder in the printer has an "electronic eye" (light sensor) of some type for each cartridge.
Some users have found that putting either permanent marker/sharpie/black PVC tape either on the area of the ink cartridge that goes near the sensor or alternatively putting tape over the sensor itself allows printing to occur.
The problem with this method is that the printer will no longer recognise near-empty cartridges and so will not warn you to replace them and so the print head may be damaged. This is said to work on LC57 icartridges used with the following models: DCP-330C, DCP-350C, DCP-540CN, DCP-560CN, FAX-2480C, MFC-240C, MFC-440CN, MFC-465CN, MFC-665CW, MFC-685CW, MFC-885CW, MFC-3360C, MFC-5460CN, MFC-5860CN.

Black wont print

sure. if you re lucky the generic ink hasn t destroyed the ph bk channel yet:

use skyhorse carts (http://www.skyhorse.net.cn ) who built good and reliable carts with a very good ink quality!

To get bk again:

press menu tehn start bk copy then fourtimes arrow up. machines will
be in maintenance mode. press 7 then 6 then 4 then start bk copy. machine will initialize the carts, refresh all tubes and ph channels with fesh ink and eliminates the air bubbles (quite a big prob within brother inkjet printers). When finished press 7 -6 -3 to
run a power purge. leave the maintenance mode by pressing 9 then 9. do run a test print.

If you cant see ANY bk the ph is clogged and cant be fixed any more. it needs replacing then.

Print faded after replacing black cartridge Brother 240C

The print heads don't appreciate being out of ink so the Brother printer has sensors to prevent that but the tape defeated that prevention. Maybe more cleanings or maybe a cartridge with printhead cleaning solution will help. Otherwise, I fear a new printer.
