Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-20FS120 20" TV

Open Question

TV takes a long time to turn on

I need to press the power on button multiple times (for up tp 30 minutes) before the TV turns on. I press the "on" button - either on the remote or TV itself - there is a "click," then the TV "clicks" off again. This is repeated againa and again until the TV turns on.

Have same issue I was leaving the TV on 24/7 but when our power goes out I spend 45 min. trying to get TV to start, very annoying! I know it is some kind of capacitor starter but do not know where to start or find? I hate to pay the outragous prices for an LCD tv and they don't even have the smooth motion like the older tube Tv's please help us save these beautiful picture tube TV's from going to the dump.

SOURCE: TV won't turn on

The set is in protective shutdown because a problem was detected. The 5 blink code indicates that the problem circuit. In this case it is the blanking circuit. Were there any indications of problems prior to the storm? If not, I'll need to lok up this one for the specifics. Do you intend to repair this yourself?

Let me know and I'll provide the details.
Thanks,
Dan

hello,

You should examine the input power of the TV. If you dare to open the back of the TV You should examine the by using the tester to test the continuity of the voltage input of the TV. i guess voltage regulator need to be tested.

Be careful high voltage inside the TV.

The best way is to contact the vendor of the TV or sony service center in your area.

may this help,

Flashing green light

Did you try this yet

SYSTEM RESET
If the TV will not respond to either the remote control
or the front panel controls and/or will not power Off,
press the SYSTEM RESET button with a pointed item
like the end point of a paperclip. The TV will turn Off
and the TIMER light will flash quickly for about one
minute. When the TIMER light stops flashing, you may
turn on the TV again. Changes you made the last time
the TV was On before you used the SYSTEM RESET
button may be lost, however, the changes you made
previously are not lost.
POWER/TIMER Indicator
The green light is a multi-function indicator. This light
will flash rapidly for about one minute each time the TV
is plugged into the wall electrical outlet, when power
is restored after a power failure, or using the SYSTEM
RESET button. Do not attempt to turn on the TV again
during this period. Wait for the flashing to stop and
the light to turn off, before attempting to turn the TV
on. While the TV is powered on, the light illuminates
steadily. If the TV has been programmed to turn on
automatically using the Timer feature,

Sony Trinitron TV takes multiple manual clicks to turn on.

If you mean the actual mains switch needs multiple cycles, it could be faulty.. does anything, say a power indicator, come on when the TV doesn't?
If the actual switch is OK, then you probably have a fault in the power supply section... often faulty electrolytic capacitors. U need service.

TV turns on at odd hours by itself

Hi, I had the "Ghost In The Machine". I tried out what I descibed in my original posting.
#1. I unplugged The Set.
#2. I pushed in and held in the power button in for about 5 minutes before bedtime. ( The PC trick I learned) I gave it 5 minutes because a tv set has much more power inside it.
#3. I again pushed in and held the power button in again for 3 minutes the next morning.
#4. I plugged the tv in again. The red standby light was lit. The set did not immeadiatly come on when I tried to power it up.
#5. 5 Minutes later I returned and hit the power button on the remote and it came on like nothing ever was wrong.
#6. It has been fine now for 3 days!!! Powers up when commanded and shuts down like normal. It has yet to come back on or act up as it was doing.
I will keep a watch on it and if it starts up acting again I will repost. I hope this information will be of use to anyone who experienced the same problem. It didn't cost a dime, just some patience. Thanks for a forum that people can exchange information and save trouble and money unless all options are exhausted. Bill

Code for the one forall for a sharp tv

You do not need a code...
Heres how to set up your remete..
Turn on the devise you want to set up.
Press the set up key on the control firmly until the red light lites up and stays lit. Now press the key for the devise you are trying to set up(dvd, vcr, tv etc..).. the red light will now turn off.
Now facing the devise, begin pressing the power button several times until the devise turns off. Be careful not to press the power button any more after it turns off. After it turns off , you must immediatly press the enter key in order for the control to save the code. Now your control is set up. If this does not work , it is because you pressed the power button once more after the tv turned off....
This process might take you anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes.

Now it squeals when turned on

That is a CTC203 chassis that is VERY difficult to estimate without seeing it... The "squeal" symptom you described indicates that the HOT (horizontal output transistor) has shorted. (Q14401 RCA p/n#242224 (2sd2578)). But I would not stop there... Check also: Q14101 RCA p/n#244223, R14107 p/n#244214 (43 Ohm 1/4 Watt) and really go over the underside of the board for poor solder connections. Tri State Module can rebuild that board to like new for $100.00 dollars plus shipping. and even if a shop locally did the teardown and re-assembly that's a lot cheaper than the cost of a new TV of comaprable value. Hope this helps! Bill
