You might try changing the screen resolution in > preferences> display. If this doesn't help the CRT in the computer may be going bad, in which case it may not be worth the expense of fixing.

check all your hdmi cables. wiggle them, and see if it changes, or try new cables. you likely have a loose or slightly bad hdmi cable- this is the best case. worst case, a bad hdmi input jack on your tv, or bad hdmi output jack on your receiver/cable box)

Black emac screen

Hi, this could be a number of things but the most likely cause is probably the leaking capaitor syndrome. At about the time these machines were made there was a flood of faulty capacitors throughout the electronics world and the factpriews that made the mother boards for the eMac were particularly badly hit.Did the screen exhibit any flashing or streaking or random freezing before the failure? Thses are typical precursors.
Unfortunately the only thing you can do is to take it to a (Apple) repair centre where they will be able to judge if it is repairable or not.The leaking capacitors quite often ruined the mother-board. If theyu were caught in time they were repairable but .......
If the eMac is still running, connect it to an external monitor and then clone your HD to a blank HD using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper.

What causes the image on the screen to jitter

Sounds like bad convergence ICs. They are complicated to replace but a good tech should be able to do it for about $100. Let me know how this works out.

Screen stays black when i turn on mac g4 desktop

Have you had any screen problems leading up to this? Things like random freezing while moving the pointer or dragging a window, or disturbances to the display like tearing or jaggy edges appearing randomly?
If so then you probably have a faulty motherboard caused by the infamous leaky capacitor problem. This was a world-wide problem but it appeared to hit the eMac particularly badly. You can check it by opening the little panel on the bottom of the eMac (small cross-point screwdriver and 1 screw) and have a look at the capacitors inside. You can see 3 or 4, they are silver cylinders. If they show signs of bulging or any gloop oozing from them then that is the problem. It is repairable but Apple will probably tell you to take it to a repair centre as they don't carry the spares anymore.
Best option is to try a TV repair man as the skills needed are more TV repairman than computer tech related. However - big problem is that given the age of the eMac, there is a good chance that the gloop will have caused corrosion on the motherboard - and that is NOT repairable.
Be prepared that you may have to buy a new Mac. Your data is safe on the HD as that will not be affected - get the TV man to take the drive out for you - the high voltages inside can kill - (better kill him than yourself) and then install it in an external case to run on your new Mac Without being with the machine it's difficult to determine any other problem that it could be.

Network a G4 (OS 9) to a eMac (OS X)

OK - first, crossover cables let you network PCs together without a switch or router. I would strongly recommend returning the crossover cable and buying a router so that you can use both computers on the internet at the same time.

Second, the eMac monitor can not directly be used as a monitor for your G4 - it's not built that way. However, you can use Screen Sharing on OS X (if both have Leopard) or Apple Remote Desktop software (if you buy it) to remote control the G4 using the eMac.

You will DEFINITELY need a monitor on the G4 in order to set it up at all, so I hope you have that.

Keep in mind that you can buy, for less than $200, an LCD screen that is larger and better quality than the eMac, and it would leave the eMac useful as a second computer. Since the eMac is unlikely to work at all with Leopard, and you'd have to buy Apple Remote Desktop, you're going to spend less money by buying a separate screen for the G4.
