This problem generally occurs when you install printer for the first time or you change the cartridges of the printer. so carry on this process and do as per instruction and put paper in the tray and continue the process and than check for the proper alignment option like a1 or b1 for horizontal and vertical. so please set the option properly by viewing that which one is perfect straight line ok else simply continue without any changes ok.

Hi
If you have recently changed one or more of the cartridges you may need to align the print head, the following steps explain the process:
To align printer from the printer display
1. From the Home screen, touch the Settings icon, and then touch Tools.
2. On the Tools menu, touch the down arrow to scroll through the options, and then touch Align Printer.
3. Follow the instruction on the screen.
To align printer from the printer software
On Windows:
a. From the Start menu on your computer, click All Programs, click HP.
b. Click the HP Photosmart 5520 series folder, click HP Photosmart 5520 series.
c. Under Print, double-click Maintain Your Printer.
d. Under the Device Services tab, double-click Align Printheads.
These instructions were copied from the manual at the following link

If this doesn't fix the problem, you may like to check the HP support page for the 5520 at the following link ---> support hp com

Always starts up and does an alignment page.

  1. After installing a new print cartridge, wait at least 20 seconds for the print cartridge alignment process to start.
  2. Wait for the print cartridge alignment process to fully complete.
  3. Make sure that the alignment page has printed on plain, white paper that has no other printing on it. If you need to create a new alignment page, load the tray with letter or A4 unused plain white paper and turn the product off and on again to create the page.
after the alignment page prints then place the alignment sheet on the scanner glass and press the ok button

Printing Allignment page

Re-install the software and do try to align it when it asks for it again. If it still asks you for the alignment, go to the printer options and try to find a control that will disable printer page alignment.

hope this helps!

HP psc 2110 Printer keeps telling me to Align print cartridges. I follow the steps but it always comes up alignment failed and starts printing Instruction page all over again. I can print from my computer...

Press the cancel button. Then press the "setup" and top "copy option" buttons together to enter maintenance. Use the right arrow (right copy option) button to scroll through the options if you like, but then hit the cancel button to skip the alignment.

Hi,

I belive that after replacing the INk cartridges, you are experiancing this problem. The Alignment test sheet always prints everytime you turn on the printer, if u haven't completed the Alignment process.

To complete the Alignment process,

>> Place the Test sheet staright on the scanner glass facing down towards right hand corner.
>>Press the scan button(color), the Power ON light will start flashing, wait until it stops flashing.
>>Alignmnet process completed.

Hp 2110 All in One Printer

Does the machine ask you to "align" the print cartridges when you turn the machine back on? If the alignment page when finished printing is missing a key color (say yellow), then the alignment will not succeed.
