Question about Hitachi 60V500 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Red band on flesh tones (50V500)

Picture quality is good except for a noticeable red line that seems to run along the edges of people's faces and arms. I was wondering if there is a simple adjustment I can make or if I need to replace some failing part. I do not have a remote, so I am limited to the controls available on the set itself.

Ouch. Is this an easy consumer repair? Expensive? this is a hand-me-down TV. I wonder if it worth repairing.

Thanks for the info. I'll consider whether this is worth it or not.

This is the first sign of a failing Red Picture Tube. Tubes will blur to the right when they get older. You can try to turn the screen control for the red gun down so the blur goes away. But eventually it will get worse.

The Red CRT, if it's still available, would cost @ $200.00. But it is something that should be done in a Service Shop. Labor can be anywhere from $150.00 to $250.00 depending on where you live.

I just need to adjust the resolution on this TV. NO ONE at RCA could seem to help me. Thank you.

hi,
did u mean to adjust the picture setting then go for the following
1 press menu on the remote
2. using down arrow select picture quality and press ok. available options in picture quality and its use is listed below. you can use it according to your preference.

Basic Picture Control- Displays the five slider controls for adjusting

the way the picture looks.

Contrast Adjusts the difference between the light and dark areas

of the picture.

Color Adjusts- the richness of the color

Tint Adjusts the balance between the red and green levels

Black Level Adjusts the brightness of the picture

.

Sharpness Adjusts the crispness of edges in the picture.

When exiting this menu, the Save Personal Picture Preset choice list will

appear. You can choose either Yes or No. If you save the settings as a

Personal Picture Preset, the TV will store the settings so you can reselect

them easily if someone changes the settings.

Picture Presets Displays- a choice list that lets you select one of three

preset picture settings: Bright Lighting, Normal Lighting, Soft Lighting

or Personal Picture Preset. Choose the setting that is best for your

viewing environment.

Auto Color Displays- a choice list that lets you turn on the feature that

automatically corrects the color of the picture. (This is especially useful

for tracking realistic flesh tone colors as you switch from channel to

channel.) Choose On or Off, depending on your preference.

Color Warmth Displays- a choice list that lets you set one of three

automatic color adjustments: Cool for a more blue palette of picture

colors; Normal; and Warm for a more red palette of picture colors. The

warm setting corresponds to the National Television Standards

Committee (NTSC) standard of 6500?K.

Video Noise Reduction Displays- a choice list that lets you turn on the

feature that automatically reduces noise from the picture. Audiovariable

enables the TV to automatically adjust noise reduction level;

off turns off noise reduction feature; on-fixed sets a fixed level of noise

reduction.

The screen has a reddish tint to it. Seems like a color issue and not sure what to replace. The picture works fine but everyone is red. Not sure if there is a bulb to replace or what? Any suggestions? This...

You need a simple color adjustment. (Color Calibration)

You don't need to spend money on this. Try it for yourself.

Your main problem is that your color temperature is set to warm.
You need to change temperature to COOL or 6500K depending, on how it is labeled.

You will see improvement, but there is a little more...
Move "Color" DOWN from it's current position (probably at 50) to somewhere between 30 and 40. (Just a couple of clicks above where the color rapidly washes out.)

At this point there will still be slightly unnatural color to skin tones, but all the artificial "sunburn" and blaring red will be gone.

Last (as far as color goes) move the tint 2 to 4 clicks toward green. This added green tint balances the color so that the flesh tones become completely accurate and realistic.

For even better detail, continue your home calibration here:

Hello , I just purchased a 26" Toshiba LCD/HD flat screen TV today. The floor model had the nicest picture at Circut City of the other 26" TVs - but they were hooked up to receive HDTV. When I got it home,...

Yes, the newer flat panel TV's look great with HDTV but amplify the substandard analog TV signals.

I would compare the non HD to VCR quality. If that is what you are seeing then this is normal with non HD broadcasts (typically the channels 1-100).

Hope this helps, please rate my solution.

Hitachi 50V500 TV: has a red line that outlines faces or text

It's a light engine defective part. Hitachi knows about it and if you call their customer relations department, they will refer you to a dealer in your area to come and diagnos the problem. Once Hitachi can verify that's the problem, they will ship the part to the dealer. We had our part in 2 days and had it installed today. No more problems. TV looks brand new. We had to pay the installation of $400 but the part runs around $1500 and Hitachi covered it. We felt like $400 was worth the $3600 we bad 3+ year ago when we bought it. The color will only get worse if the light engine is not replaced. Good Luck! It was an easy fix!
