Compressor will not shut off even with thermostat on off

As soon as you plug the 5th wheel into power they compressor on the air conditioner come on. The unit cools fine, but when the temperature gets down to the setting on the thermostat, the fan goes off but the compressor continues to run. It will run until( we figure the overload shuts it down. After it sets for awhile the compress comes on again and we can not shut it down unless all power is shut of the the camper.

SOURCE: Compressor starts and doesn't stop

Relay for the compressor may be stuck ( Contacts welded) both the fan and the compressor should operate at the same time. Have the relay(s) checked and possibly replaced.

SOURCE: RV air conditioner. Compressor running, fan stops before cool

The fan motor is getting hot and going off on the internal overload in the motor.
This is caused by either a low voltage, a bad capacitor, or tight or dry bearings in the motor.
To check the bearings turn the power off to the unit, then spin the fan blade if it spins freely then the bearings are ok.
To check the capacitor you will need some kind of tester or you can buy a capacitor and replace it, that's what a lot of people do. They usually don't cost very much.
To check the voltage you will need a voltmeter and measure the volts at the unit.

SOURCE: I have a camper with a Dometic rooftop air

no both the options A and B which you gave cannot be done.yes option B is possible in some form.but in this case fan will not shut down and this will burn the fan motor and even make the fan wirings short/.so option B is also not advisable.but the problem is either in the thermostat or in the thermostat shut-off relay.the voltages needs to be checked by meter to confirm the fault. This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

The compressor will not shut off even when the power button is pushed to off

Thermostat control/circuit must have an issue since it is responsible for supply current to compressor on as needed basis. If it does not open current is supplied to compressor 24/7.

See if you can access to a schematic to study the components in series with the power line and the motor.

As soon as I plug into wall compressor switches on without unit being turned on. Turn unit off and compressor never shuts off until whole unit is unplugged

Sounds like the contacts in a switch or relay are stuck together giving power all the time. Get someone with electrical training to check the power side of things.

As soon as i plug it in the attached plug breaker blows, have ran it once this year without a problem now i can't even turn it on, had it plugged into a power box also tried the wall outlet.

Check the following :
Wiring (Inspect for any broken or burnt wiring)

Thermostat - burnt or shorted

Compressor - use an ohm meter. One lead on a good ground, touch each terminal with other lead. Any movement on meter compressor is grounded

Overload - Visual inspection

Selector switch - Burnt

Shorted - Control board

RVP 8000 A/C just experienced slight power surge. Compressor on.

I'm leaning toward sticky relay as well, but if you want to confirm it's not thermostat, remove thermostat from wall, and temporarily disconnect the yellow wire from thermostat (compressor) when/if, it happens again. If compressor stays running, I'd say relay for sure.
Just for future reference , Gray wire from thermostat is low fan, green wire is high fan, yellow is compressor, blue is ground. ( For cooling side) The red is 12 v + to furnace and white is negative to furnace.(heat side)

Roof AC on 5th wheeler is not working

CHECK FOR ELECTRICAL POWER @ l1 CONNECTION,IF YOU HAVE NO POWER CHCK THE FUSE,AND INSURE THE THERMOSTAT IS SET FOR COOLING OPERATION. IF THE UNIT HAS LEAKED FREON, A LOW PRESSURE SWITCH HAS OPENED, PREVENTING THE UNIT FROM OPERATING TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE COMPRESSOR. DO YOU HAVE A MANIFOLD GAUGE, AND ARE YOU CERTIFIED TO WORK WITH REFRIGERANTS? IF YOU ARE IN COMPLIANCE,HAVE TOOLS AND TEST EQUIPMENT WE CAN PROCEED FURTHER.

Brand new Duo Therm won't stay running

You really need an Ammeter to check this problem. Just because it is a brand new unit does not mean that there isn't a problem with it. Is it run off of a wall thermostat or manual controls? The compressor has a thermal overload switch on the top (under the plastic cover) that will take the compressor out of the circuit if it gets too hot. However, if the entire unit is shutting off, there is another problem. Selector Switch? Thermostat? Let me know what kind of controls you have and we can go from there.

I purchased a 1994 5th wheel with a Coleman air conditioner. It had been covered and in storage for 3 years. When I turn on the thermostat, it sounds like its trying to work but quits after a minute or...

You may have a power supply problem. If you are connected to an external power supply with a cord, make sure it is able to carry the necessary power. To small a cord will cause a voltage drop giving insufficient voltage to run the compressor. The noise you hear is the refrigerant pressure equalizing in the system after the compressor shuts down.
