there are several things that might be wrong here. We'll start by checking if your HDD has any errors on it. Download this file and burn it to a disk

Boot the Dell Latitude to this CD and run the drive fitness tests. Do you get any errors?

Dear Tari
the error is pointing towards hard disk failure, plz check the data cable, power cable. if you are not familiar with the hardware then you better ask some professional to help you out.

My laptop is not goimg on to the log in insted it says a disk read has accuried but is has no cd-rom in it then i press ctrl alt delete and it does the same thing over again

make sure there is no floppy inserted.
if not it could be a hard disk read error. in which case you must use the recovery console that is included on your windows install disk to repair the missing boot files. simply put the windows install disk in, and choose repair this installation from the menu.
please rate me if this solution helps
thanks and best of luck!

Problem with a disk read error

There are a couple of possibilities.

1. The hard drive is defective.

2. The operating system is corrupt.

The easiest way to test this is to run the restore cd that came with the computer to reload Windows.

If you get this error while running the restore cd then you will need to get a new hard drive.
