The same thing happened to me the other day. I plugged a 19 V power supply instead of the 12V.

    Thanks

I did the same as I see others did. My daughter borrowed my Maxtor 3200 and returned it a year later with her HP laptop power supply, which I plugged into the Maxtor. Same blinking green light. When I received the correct power supply and plugged it in, there was no response from the Maxtor, not even blinking green. I took the unit apart, and replaced the 160 gbyte Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 with a Seagate Barracuda IV 40 gig I had lying around. That drive works fine, but I would still like to know if the 160 gig is able to be repaired.

I have the same problem, My girlfriend did it not only to one but to two of mine within 5 minutes. I had just bought them moved all my pictures to one and was going to use the secound as the backup. She thought she had grap the empty one and retrived the other. I opened up the external enclosure pluged in a different hard drive and the drive works. I know there is controller card on the underside of hard drive that can be removed with a torx bit. With the number on the card you may find a used one on ebay put my understanding it has to be an exact match. I haven't found one yet, but that's my next step.

What does blinking green light on Maxtor 3200 mean?

Typically, if your seeing that green light, it means you don't have enough power from your power supply. You may need to disconnect some of the other components for the drive to boot up. Ultimately, if you want to continue using the new drive, you'll need to replace out the power supply with a larger one.

Good Luck

I have a Maxtor personal Storage 3200 external Hard drive. The green light was on but my computer wasnt recognizing it anymore. I took in to a local office depot. They were able to get it to show up on...

Try the manufacturer's web-site: http://www.MAXTOR.com and see if their E-commerce site offers that part-number.
Or, given the part-number on the power-supply, do a search on eBay -- you'll probably find third-party "compatible" power-supplies.

My Maxtor 3200 has a gren light that is now blinking and the computer cannot start the drive. Code 10. What does this mean?

I had this problem. I learned that the power supply was defective. You can purchase a 12V 2amp power supply. This solved my problem. My green light was coming on but my computer didn't recognize the drive and I got the same Code 10 cannot start drive. I purchased a 12V 3amp power supply. It doesn't hurt to have more amps but you need at least 2amps.

Maxtor personal storage 3200 - flashing green light.

Solution:
First, disconnect the power cable from the back of the external hard drive:
If the power supply LED continues to blink:
  1. Connect the power supply to a different outlet (or instead of connecting to a power strip, connect directly to an outlet in the wall).

  2. If the power supply continues to blink after changing outlets, this indicates that the power supply is defective and needs to be replaced.

  3. If the power supply stays solid, then reconnect to the external hard drive and see if the drive spins.

Wrong power supply used with a maxtor external hard drive

You could buy another drive with the same specs and replace the circut underneath the drive with the circut from the new drive, then try it in your new enclosure

Maxtor 3200 power indicator lights but computer won't recognize

ooooh, that sucks.

I assume you have tried unplugging it and plugging it back in?
Have you tried to see if it will work on a different computer?

I hop you had it all backed up.
If nobody else's suggestion beat mine...then I give you 2 options.
You have to take it apart (might have to break the shell, since most aren't designed to be user friendly), once you have the actual hard drive out of its housing, open up the side of your computer, and hook it up.
it will have to diferent connection points. One will be power (thats the plug that has (i believe) 4 pins in it...hook that up so your drive has power...the other plug is for data (read/write), its either a sata or ide (depending on how they (maxtor) made it). I assume you dont know what sata or ide is...just google pics it...once you see a picture...you'll know.

anywho, once its hooked up...start you computer back up (FYI, when you do this 'operation', shutdown your pc...and then unplug it)
once you have it all done and loaded back into windows, it should automatically detect it (give it a few minutes).

that scenerio I just laid out for you, is assuming its anything but a hard drive issue.

if it is indeed a hard drive issue....then apart from sending to to some VEEEERY expensive palce that could extract the data for you. theres only one more option. Put the hard drive in the freezer for several hours, then take it back out and hook it up to you computer, if it detects it...move fast, and start transfering all your files off it...cause now its living on borrowed time.

the reason this works **sometimes**, is because of the hard drives heat, its its platter actually expands over time a (very very very tiny bit), enough to mess it up, and when its chillin in your frezzer, the platters contract a little bit...making you able to get your data back...hopefully.

hope all goes well.

No green light

If this is a new drive you will have to fdisk it and format it. It should have came with a cd driver disk to run before you plug it in. It will help you set everything up.

Maxtor 3200 320GB Not being detected

if you plugged in an incorrect power cable it is very possible it could be damaged if the voltage from the incorrect cable exceeds the drive. try hooking it on another PC, to verify if it's the drive or PC

Hope this helps

Maxtor 3200 power supply problem

I plugged a HP laptop charger into the drive and all it did was flash, bought a new housing and no luck. Data recovery sites said that it sounded like hardware trouble and the recovery minimum is $800. I did some more searching and found a site called PCB Solutions that sells the circuit board. You have to provide all of the specs. for the drive. The cost was $39 and I received it in 4 days. I replaced the board and the drive worked and I recovered all of my data. The URL is:
