I tried this and a pop up box came up saying that windows could not find "explorer.exe" and to try again. That doesn't work. I was told that I had a worm so I downloaded shellfix.exe and ran that and then restarted computer and that didn't work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls download, install and run AdAware.Run in Normal and Safe Mode. List down file(s) it would find/quarantinein the C:Windows. After it has scanned/cleaned in Safe Mode, runregedit. Find all references to those files that you listed. Deletethose registry entries. Safe Practice dictates that you backup yourregistry and should be comfortable working with registry modifications.

Of course, the best would be to do a complete clean, fresh install of the OS.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

That means that the Windows installation is damaged, or that there is a virus.

Try first doing a system restore, from Start Menu>> Programs >> Accessories>> System tools>> System restore.

If that does not work it will be necessary to reinstall Windows.

I have no icons and status bar on desktop only wallpaper can you help

Hi,

Turn off the computer. Keep on tapping F8 on the keyboard on and off after you press the power button to turn it back on.

You will see the message "Boot advance option"

1. select the option last known good configuration, then press enter until you have your login screen. If this function doesn't work try booting to Safe mode with networking (note: before you can go to the other option you will need to restart the system again and use F8 again.)

When you are already in safe mode w/networking and able to login to your desktop screen you will a pop up message that would ask you either to restore the settings. Click "No" then a system restore window will show up on the sceen. Click Next. You will see a calendar icon on the left side. look for the date where your system was working fine. It will restart the computer...

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Jeff
