Audio will work for a few minutes and goes out

My radio,cd ect. will be playing fine but after a few minutes it will just stop working. The tuner stays lit up so it's not a power problem. I can turn the power off and on but it still doesn't help. I usually have to stop my vehicle and turn the ignition off on my Tahoe and after a few seconds I start over and most of the time it will play for a few more minutes before it does it again, It will even do it sitting still so I don't think that it is a loose wire or something like that. Roger audio works for a few minutes and goes out.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, I would assume that by your last post "The sound is the only thing going out.", everything else works like you change stations, the controls work, CD will pop in/out. If yes, then the problem is the amplifier.

To my understanding, Chevy Tahoe has an amplifier installed behind the glove box. You may want to start checking the wires leading to and coming from it. There would normally be connectors. Additionally, you may want to explore further the idea of bunnydawg since the location would be relatively close to the heater core.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Even though it works for sometime, there might still be a bad connection. Take stereo out and make sure you have all your connections right. good luck

If you was the one that hook it up then you have to retrace what ever you did and if everything is good then you will have to take the player back and get a store credit or a replacement one. hope this help but trust me it sounds like a short. good luck buddy have a nice day.

there isn't really any fast fix to that other then replacing the stereo but one of the causes could be heat from the heater if it is winter time there

Most likely cheaper to replace than repair. The labor cost for such a fiddly repair would be more than a new unit.

Do you have the radio hooked up to an amplifier? If so, it sounds like you are using the blue wire (antenna remote turn on) instead of the blue/white wire (amplifier remote turn on) to turn the amp on. The antenna remote wire turns off when leaving tuner mode.

Check your connections to your speakers and amp and look for loose wires touching metal. I believe your stereo is fine, this has something to do with your speakers and the speaker wire

CD stuck on Pause

you can try resetting it. there might be a hole about the size of a pencil tip on the sub panel (behind the face). if no reset switch, try disconnection power to the radio. if you can't get to the back of the radio to disconnect the wire harness, try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes.

Is the sound what stop working?
If this is the case the problem is in the brain and you will need to do some solder work.
Remove the top cover of the brain and locate 4 surface mount resistors, the number on the resisor are 1R5,you will locate them near to the heatsink, the solder of those resistor are over heating, you just need to resolder them.
I hope this infromation help you to fix your problem.
Yhank you

CD Player stopped working

Probably there is dust on the lens. My CD player (different brand) did the same. I opened the case and cleaned the lens with a photo camera brush (VERY gently). Now it works fine.

If you cannot / do not want to open the device to access the lens, you may want to buy a cleaning CD.

Alpine CDA 7878R - Hi Temp - won't play disc

Does it play the tuner but not the CD?

If it so, the problem is directly related to the CD deck. If not, the problem could be a sensor or any number of other components that may have overheated.

Try to reset the unit. Most of the time this error is an electrical problem not fixable by the end user. But it is worth trying to reset the microprocessor and see if that helps.

Here is a diagram of where the reset button is at. Press it in with the tip of an ink pen or paperclick, whatever you have that will fit into the little hole. Just hold it in a couple of seconds. Be advised that when yo reset the unit, you will loose all things in memory like the correct time, preset radio stations ect.

If this does not help you will need to have it checked out by a good repair center. These Alpine radios are very good radios and are worth getting fixed unless the estimate is close to what you paid for it.

good luck, I hope this helps. if so, a good rating would really be appreciated. You can always ask me for more help if you need it. I have been repairing car and home audio equipment for over 17 years.

Won't switch to tuner

Sounds like the source button is not working properly. I have seen this type of problem caused by a crack in the display board. It can also be a bad contact on the source button.
Could be several other things as well, but most of the time it is something like a cracked board.
You can also try resetting the unit, look to see if there is a very small pin hole sized button on the display someplace, if so, use a paperclip or a toothpick, ect. to depress that switch. you might get lucky and the micro just needs to be reset. Sometimes you can reset a unit by disconecting the power wires for a few seconds, or just unplug the harness in the back for a short time.

Hope this helps
