It does not require to update the software since the keyboard was in use.i think it may be due to some dust inside the port and you have to do is to disconnect the cable from the port and connect it once more .try to check it with another key board which is working fairly.then we could understand whether the problem is with the key board or not.thank you

CODE 10 - Device Failed to start.
Verify you have the latest driver installed for your device. You may also be able to resolve this issue by removing the device in Device Manager and going through the Add New Hardware Wizard in Control Panel.

Hmmm...this might sound stupid but have you tried another keyboard to see if it's the actual keyboard itself that's the problem?

Maybe there's a fault with the keyboard drivers in XP? It's a newinstall so i don't think that could be it. I've got XP Pro and theseare the drivers it uses:

C:WINDOWSSystem32DRIVERSi8042prt.sys
C:WINDOWSSystem32DRIVERSkbdclass.sys

Perhaps you could try replacing these files with new ones?

Delete this 2 files and uninstall keyboard from device manager ,now restart your system and winidows will install new drivers for it..This will fix the issue..

Go to device manager and uninstall the device and restart the computer. If you still have the same problem, install the chip set driver. If it still gives you problem, before replacing any hardware, reinstall your Operating System or perform a system recovery. Also check if the keyboard is working in safe mode or not.

    Thanks

The fix is to disable USB Mouse Support in BIOS. That will free up the resources the keyboard needs to load properly in Windows. It also does not affect a USB mouse if you are wondering.

reboot and press delete or f10 or whatever the bios button is. it'll be in there somewhere. it's a resources conflict.

good luck

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, a Code 10 error indicates that the computer could not recognize either the keyboard and/or the mouse. The easiest is to temporarily use another keyboard on another port, USB to PS/2 or the other way around and thereafter update the the driver for Microsoft Natural Keyboard.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Update the driver

In the device Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update Wizard. Follow the instructions to update the driver.

You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in, or may still have the driver files installed from the last time that you set up the device. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware vendor’s Web site.

High definition audio controller This device cannot start. (Code 10)

If you run into the error "This device cannot start. Code 10 (often followed by a driver identifier, for example "This device cannot start. Code 10 in audio driver"), here is what it means.

The Windows error "This device cannot start. Code 10 or "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" is a hardware error that most commonly means that you have a bad, missing, or incompatible device driver. So, for example, "This device cannot start. Code 10 in audio driver" means that you have a bad or missing or incompatible driver for your sound card.

The technical explanation for this message, according to Microsoft, is this:

"If the device has a FailReasonString value in its hardware key, that string appears as the error message. The driver or enumerator puts this registry string value there. If there is no FailReasonString in the hardware key, you receive the following error message:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

What does that mean in plain English? It means that if the device which is throwing the error has added its own custom error text to your Windows system when the device was installed, then when the device encounters an error, you will see the custom error message specific to that device. But if it doesn't have its own custom error message, then Windows uses its own generic error message for devices, which is "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

Microsoft recommends that when this happens, you click "Update Driver" to update the drivers for the device. You can also start the Windows troubleshooting wizard by going to the general properties tab of the device, and clicking on "Troubleshoot".

Before doing this, be sure that you have the correct and most up-to-date versions of the driver(s) for that device. You can also try uninstalling and reinstalling the device, using the disk which came with it.

Finally, you can go to the website of the device's manufacturer, and check their downloads or support section for current, up-to-date drivers.
Go to Toshiba support site look for Toshiba Satellite A135 drivers, download the one for your windows 32 or 64 bit install, restart and off you go. Regards, Mike

The Code 10 error is one of several Device Manager error codes. The Code 10 error will almost always display in the following way:
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
Details on Device Manager error codes like Code 10 are available in the Device Status area in the device's properties: How To View a Device's Status in Device Manager.
Important: Device Manager error codes are exclusive to Device Manager. If you see the Code 10 error elsewhere in Windows, chances are it's a system error code which you should not troubleshoot as a Device Manager issue.
Cause of the Code 10 Error
A Code 10 error is generated when Device Manager can't start the hardware device, a situation usually caused by outdated or corrupted drivers.
A device may also receive a Code 10 error if a driver generates an error that Device Manager doesn't understand. In other words, a Code 10 error can sometimes be a very generic message indicating some kind of unspecified driver or hardware problem.
Error Code 10 Troubleshooting
1.Restart your computer if you haven't done so already.
There is always the chance that the error Code 10 you're seeing on a device was caused by some temporary problem in Device Manager or with the hardware. If so, a reboot might fix the Code 10 error.

2.Did you install a device or make a change in Device Manager just before the Code 10 error appeared? If so, it's very possible that the change you made caused the Code 10 error.
Undo the change if you can, restart your PC, and then check again for the Code 10 error.
Depending on the changes you made, some solutions might include:
•Remove or reconfigure the newly installed device.
•Roll back the driver to a version prior to your update.
•Use System Restore to undo recent Device Manager related changes.
3.Reinstall the drivers for the device. Uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers for the device is a likely solution to a Code 10 error.
Important: If a USB device is generating the Code 10 error, uninstall every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers hardware category in Device Manager as part of the driver reinstall. This includes any USB Mass Storage Device, USB Host Controller, and USB Root Hub.

Error code 10. windows vista on HP dv9700 hp webcam

A code 10 is usually indicative of a device that is not recognized by the computer, this could mean that is has failed, has become dislodged from its connector or the drivers are no longer valid or have failed to the point where they do not point the system to the device. Try downloading new drivers for the device. If that fails, try to remove the keyboard and replace with same or newer and check all connections. Below is the link to the service manual.
