You can try to use a cleaning CD. It is a special package you can find in all electronics shops. If after that still doesn't work, you can go to your vendor if you still have warranty, else, change the drive. it ain't much you can do to fix a broken CD-DVD drive.

If not showing scroll highlight add new then next choose option automatically install. If still not installed then go back and if you know your cd type choose option select from list then highlight what your looking for then next choose type and model from the list and next
how old is the system maybe you need a new cd rom.

SOURCE: power lights come on the fan spins battery charges, but nothing else works

This sounds very much like a dead motherboard. I would suggest you get a professional to look at this or send it to acer. Visit thier site if you wish to. I would offer more help however laptop parts are expensive and tedious to replace.

SOURCE: my cd rom doesn't work, it comes up with code 39,

If the drive is showing an error (or is missing) in device manager, do the following:

Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click O.K)
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: My acer Extensa 5620Z DVD/CD ROM drive is detected

That is a Vista problem with ACER. Delete the reference in device manager and restart and let the comp reco0gnize and reinstall ...just follow the screen instructions.

There is a registry setting that needs deleting but only if this doesn't work.

I have the 2010 academic version of peachtree complete and when i put the disc in the cd-rom nothing happens. You can here the disc spinning and can my pc is trying to read the disc but then the spinning...

You computer probably has Autoplay turned off for security.
-Click the start button on the lower left and click Computer when it appears near the middle of the right column. -Look for one of the drives labeled CD or DVD, probably the D drive. Righ-click it's icon. -From the list choose Autoplay.
If Autoplay is not an option double-click on the CD or DVD drive. Look for an application called Setup and double-click it to begin setup.

Hi friend,
Firstly you update the DVD/CD-ROM drives form device manager and restart the system,if nothing happning in that condition you need to reinstall the DVD/CD-ROM drives through CD or net.

I put the cd rom into the drive and nothing happens. I go to click on the icon under my computer and it causes the window not to respond.

Confirm that the CD drive is not a CD-ROM dive and the CD you are trying to open is is not a DVD. CD-ROM drive wil not open a DVD ROM and in some cases will cause the system to stop responding if youtry to run it.

CD/DVD rom drive not working

Hi there.
It sounds like the drivers could be bad or the lens has gone.
This can be a common problem with vista loosing the CD/DVD drives.
Do this >>>>>> right click on "computer" and select "manage" from the sub menu, then select "device manager" from the left hand side, it will generate a list of devices, look down the list for CD/DVD and click on the + icon next to it, from the drop down list right click and uninstall, restart the PC and let vista re-install the drivers for you, then try to use the CD/DVD.
If this does not work please post back.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Dvd-cd rw drive

This means that your CD-rom drive does not read the CD, it could be that the CD is a different format (DVD, for example) or the lens is dirty or Your drive is faulty. see if your drive is compact or dvd and try the right formats. Try clean your CD-drive lens. If all this does not fix the problem, your drive is faulty. And needs repair.

Cd/rom not working

Try deleting it in the device manager and then reboot your computer to see if it will detect it, then when it asks, point it to the driver.

Cd-rom drive

Hey Dale,

It sounds like there is an issue with the laser in the CD-ROM drive because it spins for 10 seconds trying to read the disk and stops because it cannot. If you try and put another disk in and it does this then the CD-ROM is bad. You can find replacements online for reasonable prices. You can also go to most electronic stores to purchase a replacement. They usually run around $30 dollars or less.

Thanks - Tech101
