I have an hp pavillion a305w. I have had it totally re done because it crashed. Now it is saying I do not have a sound card. I got the download from the hp site and it is telling me to go to the device manager to install it. I have no idea how to do this. I have windows xp on my computer and it is new to me.
go to www.hp .com then to the "drivers" link at the top of the site. put in your " model # " located on the back of your computer tower ex: (a305w). then select your operating system. look for the driver "realtek" (i may have spelled that wrong) click the install link. after you've installed the driver restart your computer. then you should have sound. thanks
You press Start > Control Panel > System >System Devices > Sound Controllers double click on the listing in there and click Driver. You should be able to install it from there, by letting the Device Installer find it on your computer. (If you downloaded the correct driver for your sound card, then it may be a zip file. you have to unzip this first. just double click it and press Extract all, you have to do this before you do anything at the device manager.) it should install ok and may need a reboot
Right click 'My Computer' choose Properties, Click on the hardware tab, then click Device Manager. Find your device, possibly under Multimedia Controller or Unknown device. Once you found the device that is your soundcard, right click it and choose Update Driver. Choose Advanced install and "Specify driver location" Then browse to the directory you extracted the contents of the file you downloaded from HP. Follow the prompts and if it is the correct driver you will have sound.
